Beside bed, kitchen, living room. Plus I own 3 oil lamps and several battery operated camping type lamps.

At sea, Yes. I sleep with one and carry one 24/7.
At home, there's one near the bed.BTW, Pelican seems to make the best for my purposes. Reasonably priced, handy, VERY simple and they last a long time and take a pretty good beating. They take 3 C cells and have NO switch.(screw the cap to turn them on.) |

Yep, even a few of the plug-in the wall and come on if you lose power types. Go through a big earthquake or two at night and lose power and see what fun it is.
I also have a gas shut-off valve that I can turn back on. |

I've got 3 in the bedroom, 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the dining room...wait a minute...none in the living room?!?! Damn, now I need to go buy one for the living room. Thanks for pointing out this deficiency in my disaster plan.
