Man, I remember when I had a Compaq 286, 4meg of ram, 42meg hard drive, and an external Bell Labs 300 bps modem. I was smoking!

Gee you guys must be old.

I shut down my BBS after running it for 6 years on different equipment and software, in 1987.

Ah, the joys of that upgrade to $500 1200 bausd modems, adding that first 5 MB hard disk, the fights over which 2400 baud standard would win out.

The first computer I ran a BBS on was a TRS 80 Model 3 with a 300 buad modem and two 160K floppy drives, the last was a Compaq 386/20 with a whopping 40 MB of storage and 6 phone lines.

Those were the days...

I had a Tandy [s]2000[/s] 1000 with a 20 meg hard drive back in the days when you called all your friends over to see your 20 meg hard drive.

DavidC,
What BBS did you run? I may have been a user...

Edit: 1000, 2000... whatever it takes!

Apple IIe w/64K memory, 128K floppy, 300baud modem in 1985.  Those were the days.

I remember when the first 5MB and 10 MB hard drives came out for Apple II.  "OMG!  10MB!! Who would ever use that much disk space?"

Anyone from WizNet in SoCal?

My first was an 8088 with dual 5-1/4 floppies, runnin DOS 1.1. First monochrome then VEGA graphics. I still have the seagate 20MB hard drive that we added to that machine. It ran at like 4 MHz. MY second was a 20MHz 386SX used the same HD, but had a 3.5 in floppy and 5.35 floppy. USed the same 4 megs of ram accross a couple machines back then. RAM cost over $100 a meg. The good old days when DOS rulled the world.

I was on the abyss and boot hill a few times.
also did emerald isle(16 lines, closed in 96 or 97), pc treasure chest, fireball bbs, and a few more.  my sister was cosysop of a few for a while too.

I ran a 386/sx16mhz with 1meg ram and a 40mb hard drive with a 13" vga monitor.  oh and a 2400bps external modem, which still works.

I was always interested in downloads section, when the commander keen or duke nukem games were only 100k for the full game.  and i had a few images that were 800x600 and 32bit(which was HUGE deal but to view them i had to scroll around them. because my monitor could only do that color if it was in a certain mode.
