Backup On Active Military Duty

DES MOINES, Iowa -- If you stayed up last night expecting to see the Powerball numbers drawn at their usual time, you had a long wait.

Now we know why.

A security official with the lottery got stuck in traffic on the way to a computer site in Clifton, N.J., that helps ensure the integrity of the draw.

The official made it to the site just before midnight, allowing the draw to proceed after a delay of about an hour and 45 minutes.

The security official's backup couldn't fill in because he was on active military duty.

The Powerball numbers themselves are drawn in Iowa -- at the headquarters of the Multi-State Lottery.

By the way, the winning numbers, by the way, were: 5-13-18-42-50 and the Powerball was 4. There was no top winner.
