I have long hair (check the avatar) that I normally tie back (for work), I've had long hair since I was 14, I'm 30 now.

I've noticed that my hair is retreating under assault from my scalp [:D] plus, I guess I've just sorta outgrown it.

I don't really want to have the type bald on top & short all around business guy type cut, so I'm thinking about a clean shave. What do you guys think?

Just think! No more shampoo!

I get up every morning
shave my head
comb my face
and put a live chicken in my underwear
but I'm not strange
I'm just like you

(Jerry Jeff Walker, I think)

cynic

I feel your pain, brother.  Like you, I have felt the effects of male pattern baldness at an early age.  I've been shaving my head pretty close for about a year now.

Fortunately, I am blessed with a reasonably round (as opposed to angular and/or lumpy) noggin.  Shaving doesn't work well on angular or bumpy heads.

I went as Vic Mackey last Halloween.  I pulled it off quite nicely.

go for it, you won't regret it. i don't shave mine completely off, but as close as my shaver can get. no more shampoo. it takes almost no time to get ready in the mornings. only downside is during winter time. can get a little chilly up there, but that is what they made hats for right.

Luckily I don't have a large or odd shaped head, I do worry somewhat about sunburn though. It gets blazing hot here.

I say go for it. Remember to take a couple of "before" pictures though.

You have to have the right shaped head for it. The guy I share my office with shaves his head and it looks seriously badass. Women are always rubbing his head when we are out in bars and stuff. Some guys have a bad head shape, though, and they end up looking like escaped mental patients.

Just please, whatever you do, don't grow a goatee to go with it.  That has got to be one of the most tired looks going.
Now, whenever I see someone with that "style" I just start saying "Stone Cold, Stone Cold" in honor of the way Jim Ross announces the Texas Rattlesnake's entry into the ring.

Go for the "Jarhead" cut.
I cut my own. I have a hair clipper that I'll use the #1 attachment in the rear and sides, then I'll taper it up to a #2 on the top.
Nice and short, but not uniform in length.

Just an option.
