This is bullshit! They should be tared, feathered and have their asses kicked out of office for pulling this childish crap!
http://www.statesman.com/legislature/content/coxnet/texas/legislature/0503/0513walk.html FOUND: Democrats say they walked out on principle Officers seek U.S. permission to bring back lawmakers who halted vote on GOP plan for redistricting By Ken Herman AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Monday, May 12, 2003 Fifty-three Texas House Democrats, more powerful when they don't show up than when they do, hid out Monday and halted the legislative process as state police tracked them down and tried to return them to the Capitol. Most of the missing lawmakers, who oppose Republican efforts to redraw the state's congressional boundaries, were holed up at a Holiday Inn in Ardmore, Okla., dining at Denny's and plotting their next move, several of them said late Monday. "We're working," said Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine. "We'll put out a bunch of stuff tomorrow." Shortly before 10 p.m., House Speaker Tom Craddick, R-Midland, told the House that "40-plus members" had been located in Ardmore and Texas Department of Public Safety officers were en route. The DPS officers, however, had no authority to arrest the Texas lawmakers, said Craddick, adding that DPS was asking the federal government for that authority. Craddick said he made a plane available to bring the lawmakers back if they choose. "If they come back by plane they can be here in less than an hour, and we can go on with the business of the state," Craddick said, ordering the House to remain in session late into the night to await the possible return. According to Rep. Mike Krusee, R-Round Rock, state law officers were headed to the hotel to say, "It's time to come home, boys." .... more at the link. |

I think every state should send all their legislators to Oklahoma: convert the state to a kind of Yucca Mountain for useless riff raff.

No, that name isnt familiar.
Anne Richards maybe was the one? I think she ran for gov, or was one, and that name comes to mind. |

Please don't ever associate "Ma Richards" with gun rights. She basically lost her re-election over refusal to sign the concealed carry bill. Her greatest claim to fame is, in the presidental election in '92. Can still hear her whiney voice "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth". Still rasps my nerves... fullclip |

Doesn't this amount to Interstate Flight to Avoid Prosecution (for contempt of congress)? Which would make this a Federal offense. Any lawyers out there? What do you think?

They are simply to compel their attendance in the Texas Legislature. |

Give them the MAXIMUM penalty under the law!!
If you really want to punish them: Revoke their Texas citizenship and make 'em stay in Oklahoma! Make 'em wear OU colors 24 hours a day and learn all the words to " Boomer Sooner" That'll teach 'em! |

You'd think these people would start to realize the weaknesses of the Defecratic party and its liberal agenda. They have to run away from the House???? The ones in DC are fillibustering??? BTW: Fillibuster= we can't win on merit, so we'll obstruct.

To all of you that say they need to stay here go to hell...we already have enough Dems. You come take them back. We don't want em.

Wonder if I could get away with that where I work....

Hey Airwolf,
Keep your Kommunist opinions in your home state of Kalifornia and let us Texans work our political squabbles out ourselves. These guys are engaging in a time honored tradition in Texas: Qurom busting. It is a last ditch effort to stop a tyrannical majority from imposing its will on the minority. This is why the Legislative Rules are written like this. The Killer B's (redux 2003)are heroes. They have stood up to a tyrannical republican majority who forgot what the political process is about: Compromise. The Repubs in the Texas Legislature have in the past few months passed laws that removed the common man's right to seek redress in the court house and protected big business. They have stopped a travesty in progress. Good for them. I wish they had disappeared a month ago! Another thing is that I feel safer when the legislature is UNABLE to pass more BS laws. |

At that point, our only hope would be that the Repubs had the stones to walkout and stop the legislative process until the Dems got the message that their majority cannot shove crap down our throat! SC Texas, that was a very idealistic and principled triple post you just made. I thought I might take this opportunity to clarify my position. Its quite simple.
I have my side and they have theirs. I do not hate them in an emotional sense, but I do feel that the world would be a better place without them in it. Therefore, I hope they DIE in various and sundry (and hopefully painful) ways, due process and your particular ideas about political fairness in our country notwithstanding. I hope they die from swallowing bits of glass in their chinese food and drowning in their own blood from the internal bleeding, and a hundred other ways I won't describe here. Why? Because they are MORE of a threat to my country and my way of life than Al Quaida or Hezbollah or Hamas. They are going to play dirty pool every time, so I reserve the right to hope some very skilled person (but not myself of course, being the peaceful, law abiding citizen I am) plays dirty pool with their kidneys... in short, FUCK THEM! That clear it up any? |

SC-Texas,
“Kommunist opinions”?!? You don’t know me, I don’t know you. You have greatly overstepped yourself in using an epithet like that with me. Because you live in a particular state does NOT mean that you agree with or support in any way the bullshit that the ruling party spews out on a daily basis. I don’t. I have watched the democrats in this state systematically destroy it for years. Unchecked immigration, falling over themselves to fawn and cater to those that willingly break the law. A legislative system running without any checks and balances because the governor, both branches of the legislature and the judicial system can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. We are $35 BILLION dollars in the red. A government run totally by DEMOCRATS has put us there with their socialist, activist utopian bullshit. I totally agree with -D-N- on this one. The Democrats (real name: Socialists) pose FAR more of a threat to this nation than any external terrorist organization. These so called “public servants” that have fled across state lines to bring the operation of government to a screeching halt should be prosecuted to the fullest possible extent under Texas law (and Federal if possible). I believe the good citizens of Texas will be more that a little displeased with this childish action and angry Texans tend to make life difficult for those that have stepped over the line. I hope that not one of these bastards never makes it back into “public service” again (except maybe dog catcher or garbage collector) as a clear signal to others that the people won’t tolerate this bullshit ever again. |
|
SC-Texas- What the heck are you talking about, boy? The Republican majority forgot what politics is all about, COMPROMISE? Screw that. Compromise is for when you DON'T have a majority.
When you have a majority, you ram it up the other party's poo-poo hole. You know, like the Dems did in the House for about 40 years. Like that. Remember? I will agree with you on one point. Let us all drop to our knees and pray that more politicians of every stripe will adopt this tactic. The idea of a Congress that can't pass a single law is like a wet dream. Encore, encore I say! |
|
I do NOT elect a representative to "compromise." I elect him to stick to his guns. I elect him to stand by the principles and promises expressed during his campaign and afterward. Anything less borders on betrayal of his constituents who put him in office.
I mentioned this to a friend of mine in TX. She started trying to justify it by explaining that the Republicans wanted to starve children and throw senior citizens out in the street and kill all non-whites, ad nauseum... Do people in the great Republic of Texas really believe this flatulent bilge??!!!!!! These tactics, just like the filibuster, are resorted to when they can't win on merit. |
|
I am a Sensible Texan.
If I ran away from my job because it wasn't going my way, how long do you think I'd be employed? Compromise is done with discussions that involve facts. You don't get compromise on an issue by running away to another state and whining about how horrible it all is. These scumbags who we call "Texas Democrats" - please do NOT make the mistake of calling them Texans. They are not. |
|
SC-Texas
In case you missed it, the Dems in Texas have been cramming down our throats their version of district gerrymandering for decades. All of the sudden it's the wrong thing to do? |
|
These idiots need to be forcibly brought back, and FORCED to do the job that they were elected to do.
On a side note, I had the "pleasure" of dining in the same small restaurant with Ms.(and I use the term loosly) Ann Richards. My wife and I had just sat down at our table and ordered drinks, when we hear this HORRIBLE cackle coming from two or three tables down. I peer over, and who do I discover, but that fucking windbag Richards. Damn near walked out of there. Never did go back again. |
|
Turn off the power and water,it gets mighty hot down there in Ardmore!
Then send Samual Jackson to negotiate with them! Bob [:D] |
|
What would have happened if that Holiday Inn had exploded?
THAT would have been a God send to Tejas. |
|
Can't you charge them with 'misconduct in public office', or similar...
In WI, we have legislators standing felony charges for failing to separate campaign work from official business clearly enough... Refusing to come to work seems to rise to the occasion as well... As for the Dems in general, this seems to be national policy... 'If we can't have our cake, you can't have yours either' is the name of the game... Hatch had it right when he accused the Dems of using 'Weapons of Mass Obstruction'... Now, where's that 'Official Seal of the Democratic Party'??? You know, the one with the crybaby on the front??? Maybe we should update it to a picture of a toddler throwing a game board in the air 'cause he just lost??? |

SC Texas (What does the SC stand for? Socio Communist!!) First of all, if you so espouse democracy, the definition thereof is majority rule. That means 51%. Not 66%. Secondly, the democrats have been gerrymandering the voting districts ever since they have had the majority. The republicans just want to restore them to a sensible form. No more connecting 2 population clusters with a 1/4 mile wide 20 mile long strip. Third, Texas history is built from things like the Alamo. Standing your ground and facing the enemy. These cowardly Dems are a disgrace, not only to Texas, but to the entire nation. They are making a mockery of our government. What may surprise them, is if they call an extension to the legislative session when the bastards come back in order to complete the work that they ran away from. Lock the doors to the building and no one leaves until the work is done. The majority has spoken and the Dems just can't handle getting their asses kicked. The results of this action will not only destroy the democratic party in Texas, but nationally. We will see in 2004 what will happen. And personally, this hardcore republican Tennesseean will be laughing his tail off at all the friggen Damocraps that get their butts kicked. It is really cute when 64% of democrats can't name one democrat presidential candidate!!! Just goes to show you, the party is over. No more socio communist, liberal marxist democrats to steal my rights and give sluts the right to commit murder of the unborn!!
