A bunch of us Georgia members went shooting Saturday at a local Wildlife Management Area (the Charlie Elliott WMA outside Conyers for those of you interested).  We have used this same range for months as a meeting place.  Range hours are posted 10:00 – 19:00.  We typically get there between 09:15 and 09:30 so we can setup targets and get ready to start shooting at 10:00.

It’s 10:00 and this guy walks up with his gear.  All the benches are taken (not all by us; there were other folks already setup at the range even before we got there).   Some of us were sharing benches.  This guy is PISSED off that no benches are open.  So, he goes off yelling at us that the range doesn’t open until 10:00, meaning no one should be on the range setting up their gear or targets until 10:00.  He says he called DNR and a ranger will be there to settle the matter.  (The range has signs posted stating a minimum of a $250 fine for breaking the range operation hours; this is really intended to bust people shooting before or after posted hours.)  No ranger ever came out and as soon as someone gave the nazi a bench, he was happy.

I always understood the posted hours were the [b]shooting[/b] hours of operation.  Maybe I’m wrong.  I’m going to call DNR later to find out for sure.

That must be the same guy we had.
He must travel from range to range "making new friends".
Ranges I have been to, set up was OK, shooting only during prescribed times.
He was pissed 'cause he got there too late, but if he is any kind of "official" he may have some clout.
Get the clarification just to cover yourself.

I don't remember who gave him a bench, but it wasn't me.  Even though zzxx99 and I were already sharing a bench, we moved over to gilfrd's bench when this other guy and his son showed up.  

If you're nice about it, I'll help you out.  If you're a dick, I won't give you the time of day.

Just got off the phone with DNR and was told our understanding of range hours is correct.  The hours posted are for shooting times.  You can get to the range as early as you want.  I wish a DNR range would have shown up.

Benchrest, yes.  Muzzleloader, no.  Funny thing was he shot for awhile, then broke out lunch and sat on a bench eating.  Granted, I don’t believe there was anyone waiting for a bench at that point, but I also doubt he would have cared.

I was told the guy did apologize to a few of the people that were present during his fit, but he didn’t apologize to me or many of the other people at whom he was yelling.

After the guy calmed down, he actually seemed to be pretty nice.  He even helped Bradd_D out with his new bolt gun.  The whole thing was pretty weird.  One minute the guy was asking if he could use my bench.  I was nice about it and explained two of us were already sharing the bench.  Then the guy goes ballistic and starts yelling at everyone.  The guy gets his bench then becomes content and cheery.  Weird.

Not only a dick but a stupid one.

I've always though it a good idea not to be an asshole when someone has a gun in their hand.

Lets invite him to the next "Boomstock" (thats what im calling the bama/ga shoot for now)

I'll have some tannerite we can shove up his ass, then send him on down to the 100yd line...
