i think i remember seeing a post that said that .22 coversion kits fouled up your upper receiver unless meticulously cleaned afterwards. can you get by with a coversion kit or do you need to shell out the extra bucks for the .22 dedicated upper?

I use the Ceiner kit and when Iam done using it I fire About 5 rnds .223 through it to clean out the gas tube.  [sniper]

not to sound stupid, but how would that work? would the hotter cartridge just burn up any residue? anyway, what are those kits running these days? i think the cheapest I've seen thm is $180.00 with the thirty round clip. thanks for the heip.

Buy copper plated .22 rounds, almost as cheap as the lead ones, but they dont leave lead in your gas tube.  Firing the .223 rounds blows any residual lead out of the gase tube, and right into your bolt carrier.  Used kits go for approximately $100 with a Slick Willy mag, new can be had for about $150 with a Slick Willy, $180 for new kit with a standard magazine.

I have both the Ceiner and the Colt versions, and both seem to wear away some of the anodizing off of the upper receiver, I can see some gray spots where the black was worn away because of the gritty/sand-like residue left behind from the burning of the 22LR ammo.

All that happends when I shoot my conversion kit, is something hitting me in the face every once in a while...I think its unburnt powder...

A crucial addition to that .22lr conversion would be a blast reducer.
