if so, what are your biggest peeves?
People who don't use capital letters at the beginning of their sentences. |
Whats with the use of 'an' in place of 'and'?
Seems to be a recent thing everybody is doing |
I can handle shorthand/slang terms like cuz, gonna, gotcha, etc. Commas and apostrophes get a pass also.
Not knowing the difference in their, there, and they're really grinds my gears. |
Yes, but mostly in regards to my own posts.
Correct grammar is a good indicator of education and intelligence. |
Yes, all of them.
A total disregard for punctuation really gets me. |
I refuse to read text speak.
I lik ic crm U no wat I men? FUUUUUUUCKKKKKK |

My degree is in English LIt. and Communications and while I'm not a grammar Nazi, per se, some of the basic mistakes, which are clearly repeated by the offenders, make me scratch my head.
'They're, there and their,' 'it's and its' and 'you're and your,' are a few. I got into law school not based on a stellar LSAT, or GPA, but because I could read and write well and I'm always catching things, but I proofread a lot, so I do catch my mistakes and I'll even go back a day later and edit something that I missed, just because... Cue vs queue

"graduate high school"
"anyways" Anytime someone drops the article before a common noun: "on holiday" "in hospital" "call hospice" |
No. But if I notice your shitty spelling you should examine where in life things went wrong .
Those who capitalize every word of their sentence. The whole your/you're thing is so simple yet so many people get it wrong, as well as their/they're/there.
But my biggest pet peeve? People who either can't spell for shit and don't use some form of auto correct or spellcheck, or people who use text speech. That's all I think. |
Using "then" instead of "than".
"It was a much bigger fire then anyone expected" I see that a lot here. Not sure why. |

Some posts are so deficient in capitalization, proper punctuation, subject with verbs and vis versa, and then full of run on sentences and incomplete sentences that I wonder during just which grade did they dropout. One of these days when I have the time to spend in GD, I'm going to go grammar and spelling police and bust everyone I can.

View Quote Well, I went to law school in Miami and grammar was so poor for my class that we all had to take a remedial English/grammar class...for...like...a semester. Think about that for a second. Now, to be fair, English is a secondary language for many here in Miami, but these people all graduated from US schools, or most of the 104 people in my class, did. Chris |

I'm putting my car up for sell. I hope I can sale it quickly.
No because my grammar sucks. What does grind my gears is the dollar sign after the amount. I've been seeing it more and more frequently lately and it drives me nuts.
I'm more like the Grammar French Resistance. I try to fly under the Grammar Nazi's radar until I decide to fuck stuff up.

Chris Miami is just full of retards. When I first moved here I got in trouble for writing in cursive. That was in high school. |

Thanks for axing, I deplore the use of "prolly", it's ghetto. Another peeve is "breaks ie. "My car needs breaks" |
Lose and loose make me shake my head every time. I'm not into correcting, but I'll poke fun.

Loose when you mean lose.
Fucking retards. ETA: YES! this guy gets it^^ |
It bothers me when someone uses broke instead of broken, ie; "This thing is broke." instead of "This thing is broken."

I was in the second class, so they were bustin' a nut to gain accreditation, so I couldn't necessarily blame the faculty, but beat me with a stick. It's hard enough without being forced to take a class you're fully capable in. Chris |
