Almost every time I fly, and I have to fly like 4-6 times a month, they are checking my laptop for traces of explosives.

I wanted to use it on the range using some spreadsheets and ballistic software, also my Chrony.

I bet that would leave some residue behind on it.

So instead of preparing my angus every single f...g time I fly I just got me a second laptop ( X201, as I wanted something cheap and small, yet i5 generation )

I dont think gunpowder shows up.

I've gone to the range before having my hands swapped by TSA. No issues.

I once got checked for explosives after a snowmobile trip because the two stroke exhaust aroma set off the alarm.

Another entertaining TSA story lol.

Their X-Ray machines uses a new type of software to check object density in relations to explosives. My guess is your laptop alarms the machine, so it gets pulled for screening.

Yep, even when it's in a bin by itself. Happened twice last week.

I got swabbed one time and they said that they found nitroglycerin on my wheelchair. Told them they were smoking good shit and they said it was from lotion of some sort.

The body scanner keeps flagging my wrist and hip when my wallet and watch are in the bin to go through the x-ray. I don't know what the stupid thing is picking up. I avoid flying as much as possible.

Same here.

Don't sweat your laptop.  Hell, my phone's seen more gunpowder (burned and unburned) than I can even imagine - never a problem.

It sure as hell shows up it get "randomly" selected for explosives screening most of time after the TSA found a 9mm round I didn't find before I packed my carry on. I swabbed hot the next time I flew, despite it being  a couple of days since I last did any shooting.

the machine you are referring to is a ETD, explosive trace detector
funny a few of you say it doesn't pick up gun powder residue, its supposed to
when I ran them at the TSA most alarms were related to ferts

when you do trigger an ETD alarm, I hope you are not in a hurry
the TSA has never been fast about anything

How do you expect all of the Somali TSA agents to know what 2 stroke exhaust smells like?
