Today was the first mow of the season, a sacred ritual of the DangerJ household.

I pull my trusty Craftsman mower out of the garage after a long, cold winter and it sees sunlight for the first time in six months. Now, I've not once winterized my mower and it has started on the first pull every year since I've owned it.

This season I decide a proper tune-up was necessary prior to the season opener so I stopped at my local friendly (slowly dying) Sears store for a tune up kit.

Get home, pull off the cover for the air filter and I see this

So my question to the experts is as follows:

Am I good to use this filter for another four years or do I really have to replace it ?

Damn, you run an air filter on  your mower?

It's fine.

Vacuum it out, then use a blow gun on it.

Good to go for another season.

Your lawn mower has emphysema.

Simple Green, hose it down. Throw it in the back of the pick-up and make a beer run. It'll be GTG when you return home.

Clean the dust off the filter and go. It will clean up.

You need to take the crankcase venting tube  out of the air box,  and cover the hole............   and let those oil vapors dirty the mower deck and not the filter

Plant some chili peppers in it, stick it back on, profit.

I have a push mower I only use to mow the ditches out front. I've never once changed the air filter. Will blow it out periodically. It's pretty nasty and usually has like black sludge dripping off it. Mower still runs

We've got peppers growing, not sure how lawn clippings and oil do as fertilizer

Put some Diesel fuel into it also, I heard another Arfcommer say his ran for 30 secs on it.

I'd knock the grass off it (that shit can do some real damage to an engine) and put it back on.

ps; my Father did some research with Cummins a long time ago. They determined that a cup of dirt would destroy an engine (6 cycliner truck/heavy equipment), by not using air filters. The dirt was metered as if it was in normal use.

Blow it out with compressed air, and check for damage. If it's saturated with oil from the PCV, replace it.

Clean it, reuse, it's paper.

They are like 3 bucks at Home Depot.

Air filters on equipment are a pet peeve of mine. Friend has a 3 year old Swisher pull behind that his neighbor trashed by running it without an air filter for an entire season. You could sweep the oily mud out of the air intake with your finger. It still runs, but  burns oil so bad he has to top it off after every use.

A 3K mower deck, destroyed by an idiot.

Tune up was completed, lawn mowed....now I'm enjoying a homemade margarita white I smoke some brisket and ribs.

Also, my neighbors mowed their lawn with a weed whacker. They got almost 50%
