She got to looking thru my J&G sales catalog and apparently fell in love with the muddy girl 22/45 lite. I only realized this after she brought a handful of pennies to me and asked me
"Dad is this enough to buy this pink pistol?" I had to tell her no, and so she told me she was going to save up. What she doesn't know is I have $520 in store credit at my favorite gun shop; and they have the exact pistol for something like $350 (I honestly don't remember.) I've been itching to buy a .22lr pistol and I love Ruger and now my daughter want's a muddy girl 22/45. I'm fairly certain I know what I have to do Tuesday after work... |

Like a fat kid on a twinkie OP. Chance to make your girl so happy, a fun bonding experience, and that is a great gun!
|
|
Mine's not much younger and I'm dying to buy her a muddy girl anything that shoots.
I don't think I could stop myself if she gave me a reason. |
|
You know what to do.
I already have a small arsenal to gift to my daughter as she ages appropriately for each firearm. |
|
Yea, it's gonna happen. I can't wait to come home with it.
She already has a pink savage cub and a pink .22lr AR I built for her. She has never shot the AR but she enjoys pulling the trigger on the cub. |
|
Help her "save", do chores, help mommy, ect so she really feels it's hers. Teachable moment. And she'll always love it.

My first boy had a Henry .22 while he was still in my nut sack.

Only her "savings" will go into her savings account. She already has little chores and helps with everything we ask her to, so she is definitely earning it. |

Honest question, I don't have kids, but if she's young enough to think a handful of pennies will buy a gun is she old enough to handle a semi auto pistol?

View Quote Well, while I don't think some older kids even have a solid grasp of money, I tend to agree. 4 years old? Have to admit, it's not my place to really comment and if I had my own kid, I might think much differently. Regarding the gun, I actually just won a 22/45 lite in an auction. And I shot one last week. Really liked it. It's a great little gun to train people on and really controllable. |

No. With my help? absolutely. She Already shoots her bolt action while I support it. And you just load 1 round in the magazine at a time until she gets older. FWIW she knows her safety rules and is very good at following them. But, I've been teaching her about guns since she was 8 months old. |

Not a fan of the muddy girl pattern. Why not buy her a basic 22/45 Lite and have someone do a better job with some cerakote?

I've never taught a young child to shoot but I'd think if they can't support it on their own it's not time for that particular gun. Are there any super light weight single shot youth .22 pistols made? |

No, she doesn't obviously understand money but she apparently understand if you want something you save. And she knows what money is just not the actual value. This is prime time to teach her about it. |

Fo.
I got my girls the m&p 15-22's and the 22/45's are on order. |

This is a perfect opportunity to illustrate how in human nature, people truly only value things properly when they work to earn them. Dad knows exactly how to handle it, I'm sure |

Are there any super light weight single shot youth .22 pistols made? Well for one, she will out grow any small firearms so beyond the cub I'm thinking longer term. It also is less about her shooting guns herself right now and more about just being around them and learning. So when she is old enough to actually shoot on her own she has a solid foundation. I also never force her to shoot. She shoots when she is ready. It's also a perfect reason to buy a .22lr pistol like I have wanted to. |

If you were closer, I'd mount a Spectre II on her 22/45 when you weren't looking and let her shoot it.
Guess what she'd be asking for next. |

You know the answer daddy! This! But maybe hold it back for her birthday or (gasp...all the way to) Christmas so she learns to work and save. She still won't have enough saved up but that's not the point of lesson here. At that age attention span is about a week at best. For a kid that young pretending to let them save for a couple days is enough. Your talking about a 4 year old, not an 8 year old. |

we started mine out with a Henry lever .22lrthey even make a carbine model with a shorter stock http://thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Henry.jpg As for the new 22/45 Lites, I just bought one for my daughter, ironically enough. It is so bastardized from the early Ruger Mark IIs. The trigger feels like it is built from rocks and sticks. It is so rough. To get the safety devices out and fix the trigger, I had to do the following: Remove the mag disconnect, and replace it with a hammer bushing ($15) Replace the sear ($25) Remove the original slide lock and replace with one that works like a 1911 ($32) (this isn't to make trigger better, it just makes operation not suck so bad) remove the loaded chamber indicator, so it will feed properly ($15) replace the ejector with a machined piece, to replace the stamped version ($15) If you buy one, and want to do any of these things and want advice, feel free to IM me. http://i.imgur.com/24DEzmMm.jpg View Quote Or just get the volquartsen kit. It's amazing. |
