GLANWOOD, Minn. -- There's bad news for Minnesota's walleyes and northern pike: the state's oldest fisherman is back.

And at 102, Floyd Doty's casting arm is restless.

He's just as enthusiastic about this fishing season as the other 95 or so he has enjoyed.


Doty has a vintage fiberglass boat and three meticulously-prepared rods -- one for casting, one for trolling, one for still-fishing.

He isn't sure when he bought his first fishing license. But he is sure he's "never missed a year."

He's outlived a long line of fishing buddies, so he now finds himself fishing more often in the company of his son. He says they fish every ten days or so.

Doty can't explain his longevity, except to say he's worked hard, obeyed his mother's admonitions to avoid alcohol and tobacco -- and fished.
