Is it just me
It actually only happened once where I grabbed a gun but the first thing through my mind wasn't the noise I heard or what possibly it could be .It was damn I wish I had a long gun instead of this pistol. |
|
Inside the house, I usually go for the Glock 34, since I have lots of doorways to negotiate.
Outside, I generally prefer the AR or 870, but we don't always get to pick how it goes down. |

|
Because it would be difficult to kill the horses with a pistol?

I actually prefer to grab my pistol when shit goes bump. Unless it's a durka durka with his buddies, then grab a rifle and possibly a friend.

For when that solitary bump in the night turns into 5 armed thugs
breaking into your house. |
|
Because rifles are superior in every way, why would I take an inferior weapon?
Choosing a pistol over a rifle is like choosing to bang your second cusion over Jennifer Lawrence. |

Hard pressed to think of a news story where a shootout occurred and a homeowner didn't have enough gun with a handgun. Maybe that ome story of the gunshop owner who used his machine gun and other stuff to fight multiple guys. That's...pretty rare. I feel fine going after "bump in the night" with a pistol. Any robber is gonna be freakin surprised to run into somebody with a gun and bad guys seem to pretty universally end up being the ones killed whenever they run into cops and armed citizens. I think we worry too much.

Get a .357 magnum or a .45 and you'll not feel so under armed.

It's unpopular here, but I grab my 870 when I hear a noise. For the distances I'm concerned about, it says "FUCK YOU" pretty clearly. It has a Surefire which is nice. And I'm 100% confident in its operation.
YMMV I have grabbed my 1911 when it's more convenient, but I'm using the 1911 to get to my 870. |
|
If my family's life is in question, I want the most violent weapon system available. A rifle is a poor substitute for an air strike, but that's all I got.

Inside the house in the dark or at close quarters outdoors the 12 gauge trumps all other home defense weapons. Period. Groggy? Half awake and running on adrenaline? Eye boogers blinding you at 3am when the shit goes down? 870 for the win!. Although I don't feel too badly if I just grab the .40 off the nightstand either.

I keep the M4 next to my bed right now, because my toddler can't pull a charging handle back.
I'll figure out another solution next year. |
|
Whenever I had shit go weird I always grabbed my WASR even though I have my CZ SP01 on my nightstand. Never had to use either but I want the heavy shit when shit's questionable.

First off you release the dogs. Then you use the pistol to clean up afterwards.

I feel way more confident in my rifle skills than I do my pistol skills. Never trained/practiced in a CQB environment but I just feel that way.
Plus, way I look at it, shithead already has an advantage over me by getting into my house undetected. Therefore I want to take that advantage away from him with 30rnds of fuck you. Quoted:

In defense of the pistol, it is hard to rifle whip someone. Butt stroke > pistol whip Even the business end of a rifle to someone's jaw is pretty brutal. I thought the muzzle punch was all the rage these days..? I always imagine thumping someone in the throat. |

I've got 3 kids, so a bump in the night is usually them. That having been said, the typical investigative weapon is a Glock 19. If I KNEW or strongly suspected an actual breach, I have a Tavor ready to go right under it.

My go to response is to make sure I'm naked and armed with a butter knife in each hand then run outside screaming about demons. I figure if that don't deter any would-be ne'er do wells, not much will.

A pistol is used to fight your way to the long gun that you should have had with you in the first place.
