KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knoxville Police officer is one of eight people facing drug-related charges after a TBI investigation. A Knoxville Police spokesman said Joshua Hurst resigned from his position Wednesday after the announcement.

Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch contacted Knox County District Attorney Charme Allen and TBI Director Mark Gwyn on February 24. Rausch suspected one of his officers was involved in criminal activity.

During the past two months, TBI learned that Officer Hurst, a 13-year veteran of the force, was involved in the distribution of various drugs in a drug free school zone. That included Oxycodone and Oxymorphone. According to the Knox County district attorney general, at times Hurst even used his service weapon when committing the crimes.

They usually stick around on paid leave until the union gets their job back.

Cops sell the best stuff......  I have to wonder how many of his fellow officers knew what was going on and kept quiet? I'll give props to the Chief for going after one of the dirtbags under him.

Sometimes I truly wonder if cops abuse drugs more than the general population.

A bunch of our younger locals are so jacked up on steroids that they look comical.  Then there's the cocaine issues...

This is a good example of why only the police and military should have guns

There was a lawyer here in NJ that received sexual favors for legal services.  His buddies knew, nothing was done till one of the girls went to the police.

It happens.

We had a couple officers in my small town back in CT who were referred to as "Officer Sniffles" by the townsfolk because of their love of the booger sugar.
