if you're that hung up on having the hd name on your tank, then I don't expect you to get it. What is it that hd riders always say, "if I have to explain it, you wouln't understand?" Well guess what, that works both ways.

I think it's a crime to desecrate a Ducati ! I had a 900SS and loved it, now have a 916.
As a positve note, it is a %100 increase in sound value over a chopper that goes "potato, potato,potato" !! |

After checking out the site it seems that basically this is a aftermarket custom frame that accepts Ducati parts. So no butchering of a Duck is involved. If these guys were taking the flame wrench & TIG to a Ducati frame & raking the neck, etc..... If given a chance to buy a Ducati insurance recovery wreck cheap a Duck chopper would be a neat project, if only to piss off both the knee-dragging Eurosnobs & the knuckle dragging "if it ain't a HD BigTwin it ain't sheee-it!" types. |

I saw the guy that makes those things on TDC's Monster Garage the other day. The PT Cruiser tree shredder episode.
I'll give the guy points for doing something different, most of the choppers out there seem fairly repetitive to me. |

Looking back thru old '70s issues of bike mags you see all brands of choppers: HD Big Twin Shovel/Pan & Knuckle, HD Sportsters, flathead 45 WL & 74/80", Indians, Triumph/BSA twins & triples, Honda SOHC-4, KZ DOHC fours, Yamaha 650 twins, Guzzi's & the occasional BMW boxer. Nowadays nothing but the same old boring HD Evo/Twin Cam limp-tail billetbarge with fruity paint [sleep][puke] with the very occasional Shovel or Pan. |

I agree that most of the "choppers" out there right now are all cookie-cutter. However there are some that are doing things a bit differently, whether retro-style, or otherwise different. since this is my thread, I'm going to hijack it with some pics.

I really like the first one with the black rims & wire wheels. Real old school style with new engine & brakes. The blacked out forks on the orange #3 are a nice touch also. The mag wheels look kinda questionable though. The old Invader mags from the '70s were sorta deathtraps. A guy I know runs a set on his Shovel chop but has had to have them repeatedly rewelded |

the second two are performance machine bikes, so they mostly use their own parts where ever possible. The wheels on those two are cnc machined from solid aluminum. Something tells me they'll hold up ok.
The first PM bike has an S&S sporty race motor that costs $7k, mounted in a paughco rigid frame that costs $700, I love that. |

You're right about the wheels. CNC billet may be $$$$$ but is the shiznit, much better than the recycled beercan cast Invaders. Kinda hard to make out the intake in the pic: front pointing Weber-type carb? In an older issue of Iron Horse they featured a FXR that the guy built a tunnel ram intake with downdraft carb. Poked up thru a reinforced window in frame between the left & right fatbob tanks. Looked like something straight outa the Road Warrior, all bead blast aluminum & flat paint.

Well, it is unique. As I've cruised down the road I've been waved at by guys on Hondas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas, and even Harleys and the occasional BMW. However, Duc riders only wave at each other and God. Don't expect the stock Duc'ers to be too enthused. They would consider this bike to be a blasphemous abomination.
Not being a Duc rider myself, I like the bike. It breaks the mold and that element of individuality is at the heart of being a biker. Go in peace with my blessing. |
