I was driving home from work yesterday and stopped for traffic ahead of me. I looked in rear view mirror and saw a mirror full of Chevy Blazer. Young guy- texting. Got whacked at about 30mph. After I became lucid, I noticed how my car (2013 BMW 535X drive) reacted. Immediately the emergency flashers started, an engine/fuel cutoff switch killed the engine, SOS activated a call to BMW. My seat restraints automatically tightened and the tranny went from drive to neutral to park and doors unlocked.
I never wanted to test my car this way but I walked away with only a concussion. The popo told me the other driver admitted fault, and has insurance ( what a rarity here in Illinois). Thank you Kraut engineers. |

Sucks about the car, sucks even more about the concussion. Glad to hear it wasn't more serious.

Hopefully, you told the police to arrest the douchebag for using phone/texting while driving.
If he's insured--you're going to be rich, bitch! |

with "ONLY" a concussion!!!!!!
I have had two in my life more to come sir that you will not like. I see stars(fireflies periodically) random headaches, and other issues because of it but good to hear you are still kicking. |

I hate texters who do it while driving. All I see around me here in northern VA is the same thing. Glad you're ok.
I have a front mount dash cam, but I'm about to purchase a second rear one for when a moron slams into me. Laws don't seem to have any impact, and there's very few tickets written for it. I don't know what it will take to stop this generation from looking at their pocket technology non-stop. I'm only 35 and I fucking hate young people. |

Wow 2103- my bad. Docs gave me great meds. Texter only gets a ticket. I get to sit around in pain.

Glad to hear you are OK!
Pretty cool how all that stuff happens automatically. I used to argue with my dad about crashworthiness of old vs new cars. Never could convince him that I did NOT want to be the guy in the 51 Ford. I hate people who text when they are driving. Years (MANY!) ago I was at a stop light in my first new car - a Ford Escort. Looked up and saw a tractor trailer barreling down on me on a two lane non-divided highway. Getting closer. Closer. Put it back into gear. Get ready. Keep watching. OH SHIT, HE AIN'T STOPPING!!! Right turn blasted out of the intersection just as he barreled through at 55+ mph. I would have been bumper mush. Guy never took his foot off the gas. Probably never even saw me. Guy in your case didn't have to admit fault. If you get rear ended you aren't at fault. ETA: Quoted:

Damn.... glad you're okay.
And yeah... here in MT, uninsured drivers are a huge problem as well. My wife was struck as a pedestrian, by a chronic reckless, uninsured driver. Stupid bitch just shrugged it off and went about her merry way, leaving my wife and I to deal with the aftermath. She was ordered to pay restitution, but of course she disappeared and has never paid a cent. Anymore, when someone tells me they were in an accident, the first words that I blurt out are "was the other driver insured". Seems like a 50/50 chance anymore at best. |

I've lectured my kids that texting and driving is WORSE than drunk driving. I've also told them that I'd rather be someone hit by a texting driver than live with the guilt of being the POS texting driver. Hopefully some of that sunk in with them. |

And I had a cutoff switch trip in an 89 Ford Probe when I got rear ended, the Probe wasn't bleeding edge tech so I'm guessing that just about all cars made in the last 20 years have them. |

Not to long ago I came upon a Bently Cont. GT vs a F250. The GT hit the rear of the Ford at about 30 meh and destroy ed the GT, the Ford was not bad at all. |
