So do you love, hate, or do not know what it is?

I grew up eating grits and I do love it - even had it this morning with a slice of cheese.

Either for breakfast with eggs over medium or for dinner with trout filets.  I could live on these two meals forever

Take corn and bleach it, that gives you hominy.  Grind up the hominy into the consistency of Cream of Wheat, that gives you grits.

Haha, you know what people never put in grits to make them palatable? More fucking gritts, but butter, cheese, syrup, sugar etc in vast quantities to make the damn things edible.

Instant commie grits yes, slow cook real grits no. If done correctly i can eat those fuckers plain, but a little bacon and butter never hurts.

One can live longer on nothing but grits

than on bourbon

The sodium in the grits information assumes you add some either during cooking or at the table. I've reduced my sodium intake drastically, but grits are one dish I have to add it to.

Oh yeah. Had some great shrimp & grits at Mr. B's in New Orleans last year. Good with butter, salt, and pepper with a country breakfast, as well.

Where I grew up, grits were always served if you went out for breakfast as a staple.but then again, sweet tea was always served as well. Now that I live in Arizona, you have to ask for them as a side. I usually eat them with butter, salt and pepper. A dash or two of Tabasco doesn't hurt either.

Only if made correctly. I had some in KS that were the worst grits I ever had. It was like eating wet gravel.
