Good or bad, doesn't matter.
I'd say, Reagan being shot, or 9/11. Maybe the fall of the Berlin wall. |

View Quote End of the Vietnam War, Reagan being shot, each of the shuttle crashes, 9/11, Obama being elected. I remember where I was for each of these horrible events that befell our great country. |

Biggest impact events have been 9/11, the fall of the Iron Curtain, and Michael Jackson's hair catching on fire.

Berlin Wall and 9/11 were the ones that instantly came to mind.
Challenger as well. |

Maybe the tsunami in Indonesia, not very often mother nature kills 250k people in a day.

9/11. The effect it had on my business and on me personally still impacts me today.

Kennedy, MLK and Bobby being killed/Moon landings/Challenger disaster/Berlin wall...
Niners beating Dallas in the playoffs on the way to their first super bowl was awesome! |

Collapse of the USSR is probably the biggest impact notable event in my time. Sometimes I think we would be better off if they were still around. Seemed like all the little regional conflicts were minimal since everybody was on one side or the other and their minders mostly kept them in check. It would also serve as a good example to the wannbe socialists of today what kind of life is afforded the people by a big totalitarian state like the one they want to create. Most of the social justice crowd was born post collapse and has no recollection of what collectivism actually achieves.

I remember watching the Challenger blow up in HS.
Was in Germany when the Wall fell. I watched the downfall of America. |
|
Cuban Missile Crisis. Dad was an aerospace engineer and worked on the B-52 (among other projects). He was a former naval officer and my uncle was a naval medical officer aboard a carrier at the time. You could tell the danger level not so much by the words but how things were said or left unanswered. We have been close to the brink since, but during the crisis most of the public understood, at least superficially, how bad it was.

The Moon landings.
Fall of the Soviet Union. Reunification of Germany. |

The dissolution of the USSR is the "biggest thing" to happen in any of the lifetimes of those born after 1945.

Lots of historical events have occurred in my 47 years, but watching 9/11 happening on live TV has had the most profound and lasting effect.

Man landing on the moon. I didn't see it as we didn't have TV but I heard it live on radio. Next morning I saw the picture of Armstrong descending from the leg of the lunar lander on the news paper.

End of WW2, Sputnik, lunar landing, Reagan's election, USSR collapse, 9/11

Apollo missions
Fall of the USSR 9/11- it is the catalyzing event that pulled us into other larger wars, some of which are still on the horizon (our Pearl Harbor if you will). |

I dunno:
Korean "war" Kennedy shot, (and killed BTW) Vietnam "war" Nixon resignation Moon Landing Reagan shot, (he lived) Fall of the Berlin wall Desert Storm Rise of the Muslim hoard Twin Towers Bottled water as a "thing" New Post Office in our town Always something going on in the world |
|
I think there is still more to see. Events happen so fast that the shock value isn't there.

The requirement of crap Ethanol gas back in the 70's. All kinds of vehicle breakdowns and fuel hose repairs from this crap. Older carbs had a devil of a time to get tuned to run on this shit.
55 MPH on highways back in 74. JFK getting shot in Dallas----live on black/white TV. The biggest that brought tears to my eyes was the Challenger explosion. |
|
The introduction of Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers.
Best leg opener EVER. Then the 80s ended and stupid Congress increased the tax on wine to $1.07 a gallon. Probably called the bill the "Cock Block Asset Reallocation Bill of 1991" or something stupid. Those fuckers. |

First major event I remember was man going to the moon. After that, too many to list. I'll just say that I've been seeing things over the last ten to fifteen years I never believed I would see.
|
|
The obvious big events have already been mentioned.
I'll add the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. |
|
Let's see...
Sputnik Berlin Wall Cuban Missile Crisis Kennedy Assassination Moon Landing End of the Soviet Union 9/11 |
