HK is a money feind!  It's the only Manufacturer that requires dealer's to make a $5,000.00 order from them durring the first quarter of the year, each and every year, in order for the dealer to carry their product's.[>(]  A manufacturer should be happy enuff that a dealer is willing to carry their product's.

Well the "good" thing is that it doesn't take a very large order with HK to add up to $5000.

True, but why should a dealer have to do this EACH and EVERY year in order to continue to be an HK dealer?[:(]

What's more, not all dealer's can pull this off every year durring the SLOWEST part of the year

Actually, I'd guess that HK's primary reason for opening a manufacturing facility in the US would be to aid in scoring big, juicy, government contracts - just like Beretta did when the M9 was adopted.  While we may eventually see the benefit in less neutered civilian firearms (provide no more nasty legislation gets passed in the meantime), that is probably a seconardy (waaay secondary) concern for the company.

H&K has to build a facility in the US. The Objective Individual Combat Weapon uses a chopped G36 as the "kinetic" portion of the weapon. US policy is that if a foreign manufacturer gets a major Defense contract (not for a few thousand for Special Operations, but for tens or hundreds of thousands for general issue), they have to have a manufacturing facility in the US capable of making that weapons system. That is what Beretta, FN and SIG have all had to do in the past. If H&K wants to stay a part of this contract, they will build a facility here, and the fallout may well be increased availability of black rifles or black rifle analogues (depending on legislation) in the US.

They're not the only one. Sigarms requires dealers to purchase so much inventory each year in order to be allowed to carry certain portions of their product line, namely the Sauer 202 rifles. I tried to buy a LH 202 last year and ran into that bullshit.

Individual orders for admittedly neutered, gray-colored single stack SL8s and USCs were at the bottom of the priority list, and for right now, remain there.  !

A German on HKPro said that at a show some HK folks admitted the USC and SL8 had been "designed by lawyers" and they didn't seem thrilled about it.

Hopefully they will change that error. And make 9x series guns again in the US when the ban dies (although the HK94 could be made with or without the current ban, we know that). They must know they could make a mint selling HK94s again. It seems like it would sell better now than it did in the 80s.

This is just the stuff you know about. HK, like Rolex, wants to maintain their price reputation. They do not want bottom feeding dealers selling their product at "cost." So they have requirements your average gunshow FFL cannot manage. Problem is neither can most of the rest of us.

As far as a US facitlity it IS going to happen. As far as a true semi G36 it is NOT going to happen even if the AWB is not replaced. HK has no interest in doing this no matter what the laws are and there are several reasons why.

A long time ago when our country was free (pre 1989) we were the only consumer for the HK90 series rifles. Every other country could either not own this kind of rifle at all or could legally own the full auto versions that the 90 series were semi only copies of. And in 1989 we banned them along with every other modern, practical firearms made overseas.

HK took a giant financial blow. And what did they do, they retooled to comply with the new laws in order to maintain the US market. The new line included the SR9, SR9T, SR9TC, MSG-90, PSG1 and SP89. And no sooner than were they introduced, ATF decalred them "unsuitable for sporting purposes" and added them all to the not importable list. Do you think HK might have been pissed?

So HK goes back to the drawing board to try and conceive a more neutered US friendly rifle and we passed the 94 AW Ban. That scared HK off the project for some time and the began to concentrate on handguns.

They finally offered the HK USC and SL8. These rifles were pre neutered to comply with any potential "future" legislation since HK took a giant financial bath with their first attempt at US sporter models that were immediately declared non importable. Only problem is these legislation proof rifles were hated by the US market and sales were poor so HK lost a bunch of money on the project anyway.

And this is why HK is less and less interested in the civilian market.
