Most people who buy that rifle will leave it exactly as it comes from the factory.
Because 99% of people buying one wouldn't know that to begin with and the 1% that does will buy something else or build their own so it's totally irrelevant.

View Quote Well, QD mount for sure. Plus I believe there is no more having to pin the FSB through the barrel like previous versions. |
With the included QD sling swivel it's actually better than your normal FSB. Other than that it looks like they just modified the design for extra strength and easier machining.
My guess is that it makes them more money, somehow. Cheaper part, cheaper to assemble, something...

They always change the looks of the guns they copy. I guess they didn't realize they had to do that with the AR.

They needed more square inches to engrave warnings?

The distance between the flash hider and the bayonet lug on that rifle is too long to mount a standard bayonet (it would wobble on the barrel). The fix for this would be a flash hider that telescopes back over the barrel, or a shortened barrel and pinned long flash hider.
This is not the only rifle that has this quirk. They have bayonet lugs that are for show only, because they are unusable. |

View Quote Right, except rifles that use standard pre-ban FSB make some kind of sense - standard FSB and their tooling already exist. But Ruger designed a brand new FSB for mounting on 16" street-legal carbines, and decided to include a bayonet lug. Are they counting on military contracts? Will Ruger be selling 14.5" NFA rifles? |

I think it is an interesting design and if it was on a "high end" rifle a lot of people would think it was really tacticool.
What about the delta ring screwing back instead of spring loaded?

Ruger is a casting company that makes guns.
They cast everything for everyone, including golf clubs. I bet it's because they could cast that thing vs a normal FSB having to be forged. Kharn |

What's the point? View Quote In America, people have the right to build shit without asking you first... it's called freedom. |
Ruger owns Pine Tree Castings and cast a lot of their gun parts out of cheap aluminum.
They are saving money using a cast FSB that is made in house.
If it didn't have a bayonet lug you guys would have a hissy fit over that also. |
Call me crazy but I like both the Ruger FSB and the Daniel Defemse FSB.
Because bayo lugs are not on neutered rifles. No ban, you get lugs, even if they are silly and in the wrong place.
I think the funnier thing is they put it on a carbine length system on a 16" barrel so it doesn't line up right.
At least they got rid of the stupid 203 cut
Yet they kept the stupid carbine gas And the govt profile barrel Fail. |
I'm guessing that the only reason that companies even bother to put bayonet lugs on 95% of their rifles (other than military contracts) is because they were one of the banned features, and they don't want to be accused of caving to the antis.

I for one love the look of the ruger FSB. If I could buy one separately I would switch my FSB out for it.
Would a mid-length gas system push the FSB out enough for the bayonet to mount properly? Assuming a switch to mil-type birdcage. Maybe they are planning for a future longer gas system. I still think if they had released this gun as a mid-length it would have been an even bigger hit.

They should have made it use Mini14 mags. The outrage would have been worth it. Ruger could have had an epic April Fool's if they had made an announcement all AR's would switch to mini 14 mags going forward. |
the taper pins are on the top and not bottom of the barrel , that's way weirder than just having a bayo lug
Not really a big deal if ya wanna put a clamp on gas block But I was really WTF when we got the first batch of these things in |
