Can anybody tell me what this means?  I've heard it in multiple movies (example: "Your signal is five by five"), but am still clueless about what it actually refers to exactly...just something that bugs me from time to time.  Thanks--

It's the same as "loud and clear", I don't know for sure what the fives are all about, but I'm guessing it has something to do with numbers on a signal strength meter.

I believe this refers to one number rating  signal strength and the other rating the modulation-I think it is from amatuer radio service. It has abeen long time since I have taken the test.
