Photo: Any idea what this vehicle is?
I was driving during lunch time in a residential neighborhood behind this vehicle going slow. I have never seen a vehicle configured like this before. It got me to wondering if it was a Google vehicle or some type of electronic signal monitoring. The vehicle was outfitted with flat panels on all four corners. It has two satellite position receivers on the roof. The curious part was on the left rear wheel there appeared to be a external wheel revolution monitor attached to a cable. Any idea what this vehicle is? Just curious as I have never seen one before like this.

Very accurate GPS mapping for roads would be my guess. Wheel to measure distances used for scaling or checking GPS data.

Evidently I needed to add an emoji.  There are two GPS receivers I can see. The flat panels are probably measurement devices, not sure of the exact type. I suspect a mapping vehicle of some sort. |

Well I don't know but our water services are wire less meters now.
Truck, pickup type not free candy van type, drives down the road slow and reads the meters that way. Same as the power meter. Maybe that one does all of them at once.

Interesting vehicle I saw something similar in my neighborhood last week. I was out for my daily walk and a car passed me from behind. It was in sight for only a couple of seconds but I saw that it had two black boxes approx. 5"x6" mounted on brackets on the trunk lid, with black wires going somewhere. Other than the boxes there was nothing special about the car. It was a blue, midsize car, unknown make, 2 door sedan. |
