I just bought a new kind of rum and I thought I would try a nice rum and coke tonight. Why when I pour the coke into the glass with ice and rum in it, I lose the fizz instantly? I don't remember that happening with other rum products.

This is "old Sam". I understand the process but never had a drink go instantly flat. As soon as I out the can down from pouring it, the drink is flat. 3.0 seconds flat!

I usually drink whiskey and water but have been on a dark rum kick now for a bit.

Alcohol does that to carbonated drinks.

It won't do it to diet cola. It makes a lot of extra foam in diet.

I was at a restaurant a while back that had Mexican coke.
I asked the waitress for a rum and coke, made with Kraken and Mexican coke.

Use the colas made with real cane sugar. Either the Mexican imports or the specialty sodas. Makes a big difference.

In re: Cuba Libre -- Castro gave a speech talking about his limited time left. So, make sure you keep a coke, a fresh lime and some rum on hand. It would be a shame if Fidel died and you couldn't toast his damnation appropriately. srs. stock up.

I bought the last 12 bottles of Tommy Bahama Golden Sun rum I could find. It was made in Barbados, gone forever since 2010 and is some pretty damn good rum. It made the best rum cake I've ever had and I'm sure will be great in Coke. It's way better than batshit rum.
