L1A1, he can get buttplates in various thicknesses to adjust to his length of pull.
Plus it's the best .308 battle rifle in the world. |

Besides, he will be able to get 20rnd hi-cap mags for the L1A1 for between $8-$12 where as cheap mags for the AR10 ar from $36 to mags for the SR-25 which are $125+ |

... Cool factor of the AR10 aside, economically you just can't beat a FAL typed battle rifle.
