Better chance that GWB will help this far from an election and if it's made permenant, more time for the sheeple to forget before the election.

Political expediencey.

The Democrats are in such complete disarray and meltdown that they are DESPERATE for an issue to demagogue that will resonate.

Everything else has failed, so they're going to try this under the cover of helping to stop terrorism.

Besides, they have lost almost EVERYTHING they "accomplished" over the past 8 years, so they are desperately trying to hold on to this one unconstitutional and completely inneffective law.

Good luck. Putting the argument about GWB aside, the fact remains that the bill barely passed the House back when the Dems ruled outright. They soon had their asses handed to them. WE control the House now, and most of the Republicans (and even a few Democrats) are pretty darn Conservative over there.

I don't think it stands a chance, provided our guys show a little BACKBONE for once!

The Dems are looking for an issue to stand out from GWB on...  they are getting their butts kicked on everything else.  Maybe...  Who knows why the Dems do what they do...

Because this give their buddies in the media plenty of time to villify them before the bill comes up for a vote.

The people who are pushing this bill want to make this an issue for the '04 election and they are getting started early.  Hopefully the smart ones in Congress and the Senate will realize that gun control is a loser issue and will kill it.  The ones who are pushing it I'm sure are the usual losers(Feinstein, Schumer,etc.).  They have nothing to lose pushing this bill because their constituency is so far left that gun control is a winning issue for them.

Write your Senators and Congressmen early and often.

These bills are late.

Even if Congress was eager to consider them, they are really too late to reach the floor this session.

And since the majority in both houses realy doesn't want to touch the issue with a ten meter cattle prod, it will go slower than that.

These bills should of been introduced weeks ago, and would have been, but if they had they would have been ignored by the media which was concentrating on the war.

Assuming it gets out of comittee at all in the Senate, it probably wont happen till just about the time for the senate to recess. Possibly it might not get out before next year.

Then there is the House yet to be dealt with.

IMHO, just my $0.02 worth, etc....

It is time to change the political subject.

1)The Iraqi War is over.
2)The DeomcRATs, having mostly opposed the successful Iraqi War, look very bad
3)The AWB sunsets in Sept. 2004
4)Bush II said during his election campaign that he would sign the AWB renewal if it reached his desk
5)The NRA and other 2nd Amendment groups want to kill the AWB
6)If the AWB passes, it will cause Bush II trouble with his base
7)Bush II only won election by a razor-thin margin

The DemocRATs are trying to score political points with their base in preparation for the Nov. 2004 election.  As a bonus, they get a chance to split the opposition.

And it gives them a chance to sound as if they care about the "mercan peepul", rather than being shown as the bunch of gun-grabbing power-mad Socialists they really are.
