Slayer-Reign In Blood Cradle of Filth-Midian, you'll be suprised, lots of different textures to their music. Celtic Frost-To Mega Therion, Morbid Tales. S.O.D.-Speak English or Die, nuff said. Arch Enemy-kind of like a heavier Iron Maiden. At The Gates- Slaughter of the Soul Candiria-Awesome Jazz-infused metal Enslaved-Viking influened Black Metal, actually reminds me of Led Zeppelin on some of their songs, very different. Napalm Death- damn, the name says it all |

Disco Volante has some pretty difficult stuff, but the main "Mr Bungle" album is a classic, songs like "Carousel" or "The Girls of Porn" and "Squeeze me Macaroni". |

The Band Atheist are pretty good also, Elements and Unquestionable Presence are very well played technical albums. They really expanded on their melow side with these two, the weed probably helped. |

Nothing to suggest, but came across an interesting quote related to music the other day.

Man, some of you guys listen to some really angry music.
When I'm at the range by myself, I got the Lion King soundtrack or some Kenny G in the earbuds. J/K! Nah, I listen to all kinds of music. I got all kinds of stuff, either burned or storebought, from Abba to Zepplin, Led. It all depends on what kind of mood I'm in really. If I'm out riding the ATV, I'll throw some Disturbed or GnR in the CD player. But if I'm just coolin out at my house, I'll listen to Bob Marley's Legend. I admit it, I sometimes listen to rap too. If the ladies are over, it's either Barry White or Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews, played softly, has wonderful effects. Or try Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Its either Live at Red Rocks or Live at Luther College. I dunno, but the womenz cream over it for some reason. Anyway . . . |

Minor Threat was the greatest band ever, and their complete discography fits on one CD. Fugazi (after about the first two albums) is a poor shadow of Minor Threat. Fugazi is the reason that all old punk gods should die, so they can't live on to ruin their legacy. Oh yeah, and if you really wanna hear some kick-ass mohawk-oi!-punk music, check out The Exploited. |

Going to see Dream Theater/Queensryche next month in Denver. Should be a good show.
I don't think I saw any mention of Marillion in your list. A great English band. Dream Theater loves them. And I second the vote for Pink Floyd. And then there's my favorite band -- RUSH. Saw them the last two times they've toured and out of over 30 concerts that I've attended, those two shows were THE BEST. Especially the last one. I drove by myself for 9 hours each way, non-stop to see that one. Was worth the 24 hours it took to make the round trip. Would do it again in a second. |

Since so many of you are not afraid to take some musical risks, let me recommend anything by the Bothy Band. Really only four albums from the mid-70's. Paddy Keenan, who played the uileann pipes, was at times compared to Hendrix. I saw his ale-drunk self play in Asheville, NC, a number of years ago, and was blown away. Not for everyone, but is the sound I want to hear as my body is consumed by the fire.

If you like both Yes and early Genesis, then try:
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (ELP) Pink Floyd Jethro Tull Rush These are all oldies but goodies. Plus, for some newer material, try Marillion. They are an English neo-prog group that is often compared to Genesis. The albums "Misplaced Childhood", "Clutching at Straws", and "Brave" are excellent. I know, because I went through the search for new and better music several years ago, and I started from just about where you are now. Good luck, and good listening. |
