The first four names are my stock answer to any music question, no matter how stone cold rap rock guru you are.

Nile-Anything, they are the best band out there now.
Slayer-Reign In Blood Cradle of Filth-Midian, you'll be suprised, lots of different textures to their music. Celtic Frost-To Mega Therion, Morbid Tales. S.O.D.-Speak English or Die, nuff said. Arch Enemy-kind of like a heavier Iron Maiden. At The Gates- Slaughter of the Soul Candiria-Awesome Jazz-infused metal Enslaved-Viking influened Black Metal, actually reminds me of Led Zeppelin on some of their songs, very different. Napalm Death- damn, the name says it all |

View Quote Except for tool, I like your taste in music. Have you ever heard of Bela Fleck? Carlos Santana's stuff in the 70's was very Jazz Fusiony. I love his album Caravanserai (songs: Look up, All the Love in the Universe, Stone Flower) Tito Puente has some grooving latin rhythm jazz. Mr Bungle has some pretty interesting stuff. Disco Volante has some pretty difficult stuff, but the main "Mr Bungle" album is a classic, songs like "Carousel" or "The Girls of Porn" and "Squeeze me Macaroni". |

All the hard rockers here and no one mentioned one of my all time favorite bands:
Fugazi - their latest album 'The Argument' is great. Minor Threat - The Rage Against the Machine of their day NOFX - If you like funny punk - download 'The Decline' RIGHT NOW (all 16 minnutes of it) At The Drive In - a different sound than most but sadly, now defunct. |
|
my kind of person!, have you heard the Black Dahlia Murder?
No I haven't, I'll look into them. Also, don't forget Pink Floyd and Hendrix. The Band Atheist are pretty good also, Elements and Unquestionable Presence are very well played technical albums. They really expanded on their melow side with these two, the weed probably helped. |
|
lets see, something new... here are some of my favorite bands in no particular order: Foo Fighters Radiohead Bad Religion Refused The Appleseed Cast Planes Mistaken For Stars and so on... unfortunately from your music list i dont know if youd appreciate many of the above bands who knows -Spaceman |

oh dude, good call Hamburger, Fugazi and At The Drive In are quality. inferno715, you mean the Dillinger Escape PLAN right? also a good call! some of you guys actually have good taste! the next person who says Korn of Mudvayne or praises the lyrical genius of Disturbed is gonna get bitch slapped. nu-metal is about the most annoying form of music that has ever been concieved. -Spaceman |

Nothing to suggest, but came across an interesting quote related to music the other day.
From an old man, Lawrence Kirby, regarding a certain singer: “I am an 80 year-old former Marine who spent long hours in combat in World War II. It is only as I move into old age that I have been aware of just how heavily I rely on memory. Whether its function is to fossilize moments in time that can otherwise never be revisited, as in the hundreds of memories I have crammed inside my old, tired mind or if it means refueling my weary imagination with the sounds of beautiful music. Memory allows me to revisit a departed comrade as I read an old letter with my afternoon tea and hear his voice, his intonation in my ear, or if it is to recall a spontaneous outpouring of nonsensical jargon for the sole purpose of committing an absurdity, climbing onto the roof of a heavy day and laughing out loud, it is the memories that save me every time. It is important that memory documents my days as a boy soldier growing up with the terror of fear and the specter of death. And memory is just as important to record the beautiful, fleeting moments listening to the lovely, haunting voice of the gifted little girl, (Xxx Xxxxxxx-the singer), as moving as a magnificent sunset or as joyful as a burst of laughter from a happy child. All the time, all day long, these lovely sounds of reassurance are juxtaposed with sadness and violence, which makes each even stronger by contrast. It is inside that brief pinhole of time when a yellow leaf settles like a friend on my shoulder that I am at once hopeful and the closest to tears.” |

Man, some of you guys listen to some really angry music.
When I'm at the range by myself, I got the Lion King soundtrack or some Kenny G in the earbuds. J/K! Nah, I listen to all kinds of music. I got all kinds of stuff, either burned or storebought, from Abba to Zepplin, Led. It all depends on what kind of mood I'm in really. If I'm out riding the ATV, I'll throw some Disturbed or GnR in the CD player. But if I'm just coolin out at my house, I'll listen to Bob Marley's Legend. I admit it, I sometimes listen to rap too. If the ladies are over, it's either Barry White or Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews, played softly, has wonderful effects. Or try Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Its either Live at Red Rocks or Live at Luther College. I dunno, but the womenz cream over it for some reason. Anyway . . . |
|
Quoted: Minor Threat - The Rage Against the Machine of their day View Quote Don't you ever EVER say that again. The psuedo politics of rage don't hold a candle to Minor Threat. Minor Threat was the greatest band ever, and their complete discography fits on one CD. Fugazi (after about the first two albums) is a poor shadow of Minor Threat. Fugazi is the reason that all old punk gods should die, so they can't live on to ruin their legacy. Oh yeah, and if you really wanna hear some kick-ass mohawk-oi!-punk music, check out The Exploited. |

[lol]
holy shit i just downloaded the track "method of expression" by Candiria laughing my ass off at how that track starts hahaha |

Check out Saliva, and Kid Rock. Except for the occasional need for some Metallica you'll never need another album. Joking about the album, but seriously Saliva has 2 good cds and a rocking show, and kid rock has so so cds and a totally kick @ss show
|

Try "The Flaming Lips".
I have been into them for almost a year now. Their two latest albums are great! Try 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' first, and if you like it, try 'Soft Bulletin'. |
|
Going to see Dream Theater/Queensryche next month in Denver. Should be a good show.
I don't think I saw any mention of Marillion in your list. A great English band. Dream Theater loves them. And I second the vote for Pink Floyd. And then there's my favorite band -- RUSH. Saw them the last two times they've toured and out of over 30 concerts that I've attended, those two shows were THE BEST. Especially the last one. I drove by myself for 9 hours each way, non-stop to see that one. Was worth the 24 hours it took to make the round trip. Would do it again in a second. |
|
Since so many of you are not afraid to take some musical risks, let me recommend anything by the Bothy Band. Really only four albums from the mid-70's. Paddy Keenan, who played the uileann pipes, was at times compared to Hendrix. I saw his ale-drunk self play in Asheville, NC, a number of years ago, and was blown away. Not for everyone, but is the sound I want to hear as my body is consumed by the fire.

I am surprised none of you death/thrash metal fans did not mentioned SOILWORK.
Also, for some excellent, aggressive and oh so delightfully evil music, consider the following: Acid Bath Beheaded Bolt Thrower Brutality Carnal Forge Corporation 187 Cryptopsy The Defaced Dew Scented Diecast Dying Fetus God Forbid Gooseflesh Hate Eternal Hate Plow Lamb Of God Misery Index Myrkskog Nonexist Opeth Pissing Razors Pyrexia Sinai Beach Skinlab Skinless Strapping Young Lad Yattering Zyklon |
|
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Black Crowes, Social Distortion, Dave Matthews, Indigo Girls, Suicidal Tendencies (early stuff), Sponge, STP, The Cure, The Smiths, AC/DC, The Dead, Janes Addiction, RHCP, Clapton (The Crossroads collection), Bob Marley, John Lennon (skip every song Sucko ono is on), The Beatles, Elvis, Siegue Siegue Sputnik, Megadeath (early stuff), Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Jimmy Buffet, No Doubt, Matthew Wilder, Dead or Alive, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Van Halen, Kiss, Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, The Traveling Wilbury's, Bob Dylan, ELO, Barry Manilow, Rupert Holmes (Pina Colada: The Escape Song), The Bee Gee's, Abba, Elvis Costello, Barry White, Marvin Gay, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult, The Dead Milkmen

If you like both Yes and early Genesis, then try:
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (ELP) Pink Floyd Jethro Tull Rush These are all oldies but goodies. Plus, for some newer material, try Marillion. They are an English neo-prog group that is often compared to Genesis. The albums "Misplaced Childhood", "Clutching at Straws", and "Brave" are excellent. I know, because I went through the search for new and better music several years ago, and I started from just about where you are now. Good luck, and good listening. |
|
Some more popped into my head:
JFA (won't find it on CD though!!), dissappear fear, GNR, Simple Minds, ZZ Top, Journey, the Sex Pistols, Public Image Ltd., INXS, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Clint Black, Randy Travis, Mother Love Bone, Hether Nova, The Sundays, Letters to Cleo (aurora gory alice CD), Husker DU, The little river band, Charlie Daniels, Jim Stafford, |
|
Try "Bear Tunes For Kids" by Brent Holmes.
Then go hunting on acid. Satan Laughs As You Eternally Rot Listen to Reign in Blood, watch Blackhawk Down, then go driving through the projects; on acid, just watch out for the zombies and the zombie police |
