Here in SC they charge annual property tax on your vehicles. It's the biggest government rip-off going.

And then they say they don't have enough money to work on the roads.

The second biggest rip-offs here are the insurance companies. They rape you coming and going.

Panzer Out

CT does the same thing.
We have a huge tax surplus, we're the wealthiest state in the country, and they still rape us.

The auto property taxes here in SC are huge.  I just glanced through the copies of tax returns I did this year and most of the people I do taxes for that used car expenses against their income paid $750+ per year for property tax in the county and $1,400+ in the city.

This year, I got a bill for a car I sold almost 10 years ago.  I still haven't gotten that straightened-out.  My wife wants me to just pay the bill, because it would be cheaper and easier than fighting the county.  That's not going to happen.  They already know me by name (and nickname) there, and I'm going to keep bothering them until it's fixed.

And then they say they don't have enough money to work on the roads.

The tax bill shows where the money goes.  You'll find that teacher salaries are the biggest chunk of the money.z

I know OK does. Everyone keeps their car 20 yrs just because the taxes are so high on new cars. Never seen so many older 70's cars than I did when I lived in OKC.

Gee, last year I paid $30 in state taxes and got a dollar back. My car registration was $57. My home's real estate taxes were $1100.

And we're 35 billion dollars in debt

We got that here in GA too, they call it an Ad Valorum Tax, plus our 25 dollar a year Clean Air Act Pollution Tests.  Funny it goes by county, had my 00 Mustang registered in two counties (almost three) Here's how they went.

2001-2003 Henry county (pollution test waived because car less than 2 yrs old) Tag $ 26  Tax $176

2002-2003 (almost till I saw the price) Fulton County (Atlanta Proper) Tag $26 Tax $350

2003-2004  Hall County (home now) Pollution test waived (not enough residents) Tag $26  Tax $118
