Fly to bulletfest or take a training class Here are some training classes. Options for Personal Security and Blackwater are sort of in the south. I am sure there are others that I do not know about. Go somewhere and do something with your guns you will learn from or at least have some fun with. |

I concur that the Keltec is a fun toy. Some people will skin me for saying this, but I'm a firm believer that the Century L1A1 is a good buy. Most work fine, some need some tinkering, the occassional one needs to go back. But for less than $400 you have a solid .308 battle rifle. Or you can buy a kit from Dan's and a receiver and assemble your own.
FAC is having a sale on Hesse (I know I know, but the guys at FAL Files say these are pretty good for builds) receivers for $129 with the ejector block installed. If Hesse made them here, that is one compliance part already. You buy a decent kit for less than $150 and refinish it. You buy some US furniture and a FSE fire control group for around $100. I know they have regional build parties over at the FAL Files and many of the guys here know how to build them too... The hardest part is cutting off the receiver remnants from the barrel and torquing the new one on and headspacing. For my $400 though, I'd go with a Century L1A1 and have a blast! |

Hello I'm here to skin you. The standard punishment for handing out crappy advice is to force you to own a CAI L1A1. Problem is you have one and like it. You also have recommended Hesse which is another major infraction in and of itself. Normally the punishment for that is a weekend with a Haitian transvestite. But seeing as how you own a CAI L1A1 and willingly endorse Hesse, you probably already have a Haitian transvestite too. |

I would never buy a Hesse rifle either. However, if you ask people that build AK kits, including our own CampyBob, he will tell you that they work well and are in fact more true to the Soviet design. If you ask the guys at FAL Files who build a ton of FALs, they will tell you that by and large the Hesse receivers work just fine. Guess what is one of the best buys in AR receivers today Steyr? Happens to be the "Century" forged receivers for around $80. Happen to be manufactured in the same plant that cranks out many name brand receivers. Get over yourself already. |

I'm seeing alot of praise for the Springfield xds. Are they that good for the cheap price? I'm looking at getting a carry gun and taking my class later this summer. Is it a good choice?

I am spending $400 on a DSA STG 58 parts kit and a Tapco 6 pack of US parts. I will have to spend some more when I figure out which receiver to buy.

Well to tell you the truth about Springfields XD's I wont spend the money on one untill they make it in 45ACP. But hey they didn't even come up with the concept of the XD it was orginally called HS2000 made in Croatia. And they made it expensive, they jacked the price $150.00 or so from the HS2000.Sorry it may be a great gun but you just don't do that.

Might I suggest an FM Highpower, made in Argentina on Browning contract machinery. Arsenal refinished with a new slide and barrel and one highcap magazine from FAC. Cost $264.24 shipped to your FFL, plus any transfer. Still leaves around $100 to order a few highcap mags from CDNN.
My FFL got one of these in for gimself and said it was an amazing deal. |
