Don't you hate it when the show COPS portrays police officers as Constitution infringing buffoons?  You have two rednecks fighting eachother in a strip club parking lot with a bag of coke on the hood of their car and the cop is the bad guy, right? [rolleyes]

Cops take too much flak and I don't think this show gives a completely unbiased look at our men in blue.  For what its worth, they always show the cops acting with dignity, even when being taunted and harrassed by trash.

And what would you do with a camera on scene What would make a good show is a hidden camera and cops acting like they really do.

I don't let TV shows influence my opinion of LEOs one way or the other since it's TV and is edited for content.

If I let TV influence me, I would probably hate ARs.

Good point!

My main gripe is that they never tell about the outcomes of their arrests.  Does that mean they all walked or what???  The show is supposed to have a deterent effect right? (Noone escapes on the show!)  So why not tell how much time the scumbag perps end up doing and what they were convicted for!  Then atleast there's no ambiguity of whether the cop made a lawful arrest.

Quit your crying and watch DRAGNET.

However, I did see a clip of COPS in Tampa.  A friend was prominently shown throwing a perp, who was caught after a high speed chase, into the back of a cruiser and slamming the door.  We had a few laughs over that one!

I don't like the way the cops seem to always act around gun owners, like their guilty till proven innocent. & every time they take a gun from someone's home no matter the reason, it's always. "Well, at least we stopped future crimes that might have been committed by getting rid of another gun.

What sucks about the show is they never show the guys that outrun them in chases.  Then again, they do show them catching a lot of little front wheel drive crap cars.

Seem to me the show portrays them for exactly what they are, socialist, who beleive the government is always right and dont have the balls or inteligence to have an opinion oyher than the one given to them

That's kind of a dumb generalization.  I think it's just THOSE type of cops that get more camera and newspaper time, because their actions are more in line with what the media would like to portray as an ideal.

In one of the few episodes I've seen, my roommates were inadvertant "guest stars."  There was a high speed pursuit (carjacking of a mini-van in North Hollywood) which ran right by our house.  A few weeks later someone called and said that they'd seen us on TV.  It was funny watching a tour of our neighborhood through the camera.  It wasn't so funny to see my bank branch as the highlight of the news in '97.  Guess I made the decision to leave at the right time.

About time you showed up!  Yeah, he mentioned that so I can chat with you next time.  I really don't know where you got it from, but its the farthest from the truth.  Yes, I've been pulled over a couple dozen times, but have rarely been issued tickets.  I just can't stand highway meter maids, maybe you heard me saying something about getting pulled over on the way to Calverton or something?

Anyway, at the AG, I was in the law enforcement group REPRESENTING cops being sued by perps.  I also just took the Suffolk PD test and was about to enter the NYPD academy when I got my law school acceptances.  Regardless of my lack of pursuit of law enforcement, I've always maintained an interest in working with law enforcement.

Hope I changed your perception of me, but I knew you'd like the topic title! [;)]

Heh, well.. I only got it from reading some of your posts. Nothing you've said in person.. I guess the one that really made me think that was the 'The Jackbooted Thug' one about the 72 year old cop retiring in.. I can't quite remember. You know the one about 'the face of a man who's violated 1000's of peoples rights'. I opened it expecting to see something maybe about Hoover or some shit, instead I see this old unknown fucker who's worked for the pd way too long and is retiring.

Now, back to 'washwoman' central!

:)

Jeez, I know the thread you're talking about and I know that whatever I said was definately meant with an ounce of truth a sledgehammer of sarcasm!  I guess sarcasm is easily lost on cops, right?  (Was that sarcastic?)
