They have been coming out of everywhere here. I have caught about 5 in the past 2 weekends. Mostly Grey Rat snakes and a couple of Pine snakes. That explains the lack of rodents and field mice out back. These were all nice healthy snakes. Moved them further back on the property into the woods. Last Thursday one of my moms dogs got tagged on the snout by a nice fat Water Mocassain. Got her to the vet and she's fine now. Snake got away. Probably snuck back into the woods to the creek behind their house. Will probably go see if I can find him this weekend. I personally prefer to relocate snakes rather than kill them, as they are excellent pest control. However, the poisonous ones dont get as much leeway as the non. If its poisonous and doesnt co-operate VERY easily with relocation attempts, it gets to be made into a belt. Unfortuantely for Water Mocassains, they tend to be very grumpy and aggressive, which doesnt bode well for their relocation chances [;)].
By the way, Steve Irwin is COOL! Any man that can physically wrestle a Crocodile is NOT a man I would want to mess with!
