Now that the bearcat is done I've started a new project.  Old testors ac-119k stinger.  Kits old but still a good kit plenty of detail.  Again I'm gonna paint her in vnaf colors.  This one will be a ship from the 821st attack squadron.  It was flying the last day befor Saigon fell hitting targets on the perimeter of tan son nhut.  At this point it was fruitless but it rearmed twice before being taken down by a shoulder fired Sam.

Painting up the interior and gluing tail booms

You have no idea how many guys have had a couple of bourbons and after seeing that title imagine a bassboat with surface to air missiles.

What kind of paint and do you use an airbrush, if so what one?

Fellow aircraft modeler here, going through a tall ship phase.

I use model master acrylic.  Less messy easy cleanup and best of all it airbrushed really well over enamels. I use a badger 150 dual action with a whirlwind compressor

New a guy who flew in those back then.

Barley made it back once all shot up and on one engine.

Control tower wanted them to stop on the runway and evacuate the aircraft
but the aircraft commander said "Nope we have come this far we are going all the way to our parking spot."

It was so shot up they bulldozed it off the ramp into the bushes.

Thanks for doing this tribute.  I was there on the tarmac at Ton Sun Nhut the day it got shot down, did not see it but my father did.  Years later, he found out it was a friend of his (VNAF pilots).

I used to love building a/c models. Had a collection of 1/72 of pretty much every combat a/c that the USAF flew in the late 80s-early 90s. F111, Strike Eagle, F16, A10, F4, A7, A37, YF22, F5, but my fave was my AC130 with the 105.

I'm glad you made it out.  Most ppl don't realize how this guys fought to the bitter end.  I couldn't imagine having my world fall like this but there sense of duty is above and beyond.  Here is a tribute print I found I'd like to get the artist to sell me one.

And sadly the last photo of her.

Getting back to it got a little work done this am.

Cockpit is 97% prob not gonna dry brush the gauges cause your not gonna see em

The lead things on the gear well are stick on weights I use under the hand guards of my ar-15 to balance in the offhand position .  This will keep her on her nose

And the gun deck is coming along.  The two 20 mms have to be installed yet along with the nightsight and auxiliary power unit

That was my father's perspective as he saw the gunship go down.  We were in a cement bunker right by one of those circular hangars waiting for a C-130 to start up.
