I have a regular light fixture that I want to get rid of and replace with a ceiling fan / light. I have 3 switches that control the light fixture.

Looking at the diagram below,  this would mean that my switches would control both the fan and light. How can I have separate control for the fan and light? Do I have to run new wire and a switch? Or can I do something with 1 of my current switches and tie that in for the light or fan?

Nevermind, I re-read and see you're using a 3-way switch.

I would skip having to run wire and just buy a fan with a remote.  But that is just me.  I could lay in bed or on the couch or wherever and control it.

If you lived in some 3rd world backwater, with no "agencies having jurisdictioN"... you could use the black wire  for HOT fan, the white wire for HOT light, and the green or bare wire for neutral.

you ever seen a ceiling fan actually USE a "ground"?

you almost never stand in  A tub of salty water, while licking a ceiling fan... almost never happens, except in a frat house.

Yeah I saw that one, problem is I only have a hot, neutral and ground going where the fan is.

Just run a few wires every which direction you can find something to shove them into, and pray for the best. That's basically what I did in my Camaro, worked out well.

I think I may consider that option. Does it allow separate fan / light control?

ETA - with my current wiring setup that is.

Yes, the remote option is pretty common for your situation.

Yes, remotes are what you seek.

And please.......please upgrade the box to an actual ceiling fan mount.
