Kind of a crappy story but it really grinds my gears.

A friend of the family who was an Army airborne, all around bad ass turned liberal Obama lover.  Over the years he has been surrounded by hardcore leftists and has adopted their ideals.  However on facebook he posted a video of his son (also .mil) shooting his new FN scar.  Made a comment about how cool it is and wants one himself too.  I was blown away. WOW i though. has he come around?  So I posted a response about how he has it setup like a DMR and would make a good suppressor host.

Then he fires back this derp:

"Aeroworks, Suppressors are ILLEGAL and VERY dangerous.  Only special people with proper licensing can use them.  (sons name) went on many missions with special operators in iraq and afghanistan and knows how to use these dangerous tools.  The real need is to destroy the target. Suppressors are only needed if the mission is like the Bin Laden takedown. As it turns out, with a copter crashed and in flames, suppressed firearms were not necessary"  

What in the holy derp??  What a clown.  Just sent a simple reply back educating him that needs a atf form 4, $200 tax and background check.  and something about hearing safe range time.  Is it just me or does it seem like his attitude is unless your military you shouldn't use this stuff.  and I suspect guns period.  And this guy will vote bernie for sure...Yet wants a scar.

In situations like that I like explanations. Just stating facts isn't so fun.

Dads longtime freind.  Not much anymore but I grew up with him around partying with my dad now and again.  They were childhood friends.  Not my friend but i respect the memory of him tbh.  poor guy had his wife leave him for his brother. Another wife leave him for a climbing guide, and my dad had to pull a gun out of his mouth at one point in time..

ask him what sort of special training he needed to use the muffler on his lawnmower.  Ask him how much govt shit he has to wade through to keep his car a little more quiet.

I would have asked how exactly a suppressor is more deadly than a god damn SCAR.  then ask if he is going to limit himself to 5 round mags because only .mil have the extensive training with 30 round mags.

He has the "guns for me but not for thee" mentality.  He thinks he and his son can be trusted with items he describes as dangerous tools and you cannot.

If you post a nice gun, I would bet he tells you that you don't need it.

He used to always have nice fast cars.  I should have said those cars are dangerous.  Too fast for roads, bad for the enviro and doesn't need anything more than a ford fiesta.  And his internet speed (300Mbps) is too fast as well. downloads viruses at a DANGEROUS speed!

As crazy as it sounds, some of the most ardent leftists I know are former Marines...solid guys all around, then you get to politics and they love them some socialism.  One of their brethren opined over a heated conversation that they loved Democrats because they love authority over other human beings...it was awkward for a few seconds.  

Their fellow Marines tend to give them shit about it though...so maybe it is self correcting.
