Mine was in Newport Beach, CA two summers ago. I know some of you are well traveled.

I have a most amazing sunrise that was seen a few times in Fort Jackson, SC
Al Rawah, Iraq. I don't have the pictures anymore but it was beautiful.
The sky looked like it was on fire. |
Santa Fe, NM. One evening the sunset was so amazing everyone in the dining hall sat up and walked to the windows to look at it. They had absolutely amazing sunsets in that town.
I was a click ot two south of Oahu back in 2011 when I saw the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen.
Persian Gulf.
The sea was glass smooth and there were just the right amount of clouds in the sky to catch and turn colors. Between my ship and the horizon a US Navy destroyer or frigate cutting a perfect silhouette against the sky. The only thing that could have made it better would be it for it to take place somewhere less Persian Gulf. |

Can't really say when and where the BEST was, but i've seen some oddly nice sunsets while in a coal mine.
Probably Mt. LeConte in the Smokies. Seen some great ones out here in Colorado this winter though.
At about 20,000 feet above Winslow,AZ on decent into Scottsdale.
Ouarzazate Morocco.
Stunningly beautiful sunset. I'll try and dig up a photo or two from that trip. |
Cabin out by Breckenridge CO. Cabin was in the side of a small mountain/big hill. The view from the front porch faced south west, and the view went into a valley with a river in it, with a mountain range in the distance. At one point the sun rays were hitting the water just right to where it sparkled. The sun slowly fell behind the range and turned the sky all sorts of colors. This was late summertime.
It was as close to heaven as you can get here in earth. |
dec 22 2015 in the middle of the gulf of Mexico I saw a green flash
Diego Garcia.
Or watching the sunset behind the pyramids in Cairo. It's a tie. |
Manhattanhenge is/was pretty cool. Not much beats sunsets over lake champlain though.

Right above the horizon, to the west of where I was standing at the moment.

Here's one at East Range, Oahu. Fuck that place. https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t31.0-8/fr/cp0/e15/q65/1264895_10200391564302823_1332111861_o.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9 View Quote I've played there as well. Don't remember enjoying the sunset though. |

Onboard the USS Blue Ridge headed for Korea. There've been many others but that was the first time I felt like in sync with the world, like I was where I was meant to be. Something like that.
Afghanistan. Ghazni Province near FOB Sharana, on the top of the hill right outside of my COP Bande Sardeh
The island of Roatan, I was 15 and drinking at a bar with my dad at the resort where we were staying. The bar was built into a hillside in the forest looking out towards the west. The sun was a blood-red disk as it set into the water on the horizon.

As a lifetime wilderness traveller, I've witnessed many. I have some great pictures. That said, I don't believe I could ever pick a favorite.
But every day, I am grateful for the ones I've seen, and the ones I'm always planning to see out there. It's what keeps me going. |

Sunrise on the morning of September 8, 1969. We bivouacked on the summit of Gannet Peak, Wyoming, 13804, after the previous day's climb. Highest point in Wyoming.
Sunsets in the tropics are nice, but the best ones I've seen have been in the various deserts of the world I've been fortunate to visit/live in.
