Met him a few times and had dinner with him on several occasions. A true Gentleman.

Sorry to hear this. I met him at an awards ceremony last year where he won 'Great Scot of the year'. Had a nice talk with him for ten minutes after the prize giving about helicopters, Me262s and Hermann Göring and had a picture taken with him. RIP Sir !

In an article I read years ago his wife attributed his survival as a test pilot to (paraphrasing), "He hasn't the imagination to see himself as a smoking hole in the ground."

What an amazing life.
The interviews with him are priceless,I particularly love him talking about Hanna Reitsch. He was too much of a gentleman to say "holy shit that woman was batshit" but comes pretty close. The best quote he made was something like "there aren't enough of you to get me back in that thing" but for the life of me I'm spacing on which plane that was. |

I'd never heard of the man until now, and that's a damn shame.
He was certainly a true hero of aviation and worthy of our admiration. Godspeed Captain Brown!

Another great aviator gone. I think it was the series Wings of the Luftwaffe that he, and Gunther Rall gave some great interviews. I really enjoyed hearing what those guys had to say.

If the British hadn't ditched their high speed research program, he may well have beaten Chuck Yeager as the first man to break the sound barrier.

Yikes, braver man than me "Messerschmitt Me 163A & B Komet - Me 163B flown under power"
What a life to have had with the opportunity to fly 487 different aircraft. Color me jealous. RIP Good Sir.
