I never owned the cube, but I got pretty good with this one as a kid. I could do it blind folded in under a minute.

Two of my sons are in the 45-60 second range.
Interestingly, to make the next major jump, requires a whole new level of algorithms. The sub-30 second people are on a whole 'nuther level. Solving one layer at a time has a firm ceiling that you are working against. Moving multiple faces simultaneously requires a huge jump in processing the combinations. |

My PR is 54 seconds. I have no idea how some people do it in 10-15 seconds. Crazy.
I had a 4x4x4 cube that I got down to 10 minutes, but I lost it a while ago and don't remember how to do that one anymore. Those a a fun challenge. |

My best hovers around the 46-second mark using a two-layer algorithms, finger tricks, and a speed cube. I'm just over a minute using a factory cube and the beginner's method.
Go ahead and drop the $10 for a speed cube, and spend some playing with finger tricks. Your wrists and fingers will thank you. |

I've never come close to solving one.
I'm pretty good at the old school tavern puzzles; i.e. hooks, chains, links, etc. |

son does the under 45 sec. easy thing, he is like "Bansil there is only 22 algorythims you have to know"...fuck me I can't even spell that
he has a cube that is so loose and lubed he spins 2 sides at a time with a finger flick And the 10x10 or what ever he has is just 
I used to take them apart... we didn't have internet to teach us our fine mechanical skills, hit with hammer and then fix it

When I was in junior high (I think), I just barely managed to get below 2 minutes, but I never got much faster than that.

For me, it was about 10 minutes... ...not to solve it, that's how long it took before the Cube hit the wall at fastball velocities.

Son came to visit, he is under 30 sceonds with regular cube
These are the ones he keeps at work to play with during down time
Only down time I get is while surfing Arf

Back when they were the "in" toy, I used to be able to solve them in around a minute or so, never got any faster. Its been over 20 years since I've even seen one and I'd be surprised if I could even solve one in 10 minutes now.
It's a perishable skill and I've long since replaced that knowledge in those brain cells with something else or killed them off entirely. |

A bunch of people here at work can do them and I finally learned how to do it. I love giving it to people to let them mix it up and they think I'm going to mix it up so bad you will never get it back together. It really is almost as disapointing as learning magic tricks aren't really magic once you learn how to do it.
One of the guys here is interesting though, he solves the entire cube at once, not by doing top middle bottom. It would be interesting to learn his method. |

There's a kid in my son's 6th grade class that can solve those damn things in seconds. It's unreal watching how fast his hands move.
His dad said all his kid needs to do is watch something being done once and he has it. Kid can sew, knit, crochet, etc. Personally, I'm a sticker peeler. |
