Anyone else have any ideas to make 2 days go by quick and comfy? I don't have any ideas on how to pass the time, but I got a remark and a couple of dumb question though. (1)That's the shitz. Man those people are pretty brazen. You have to stand guard just to keep those POS alive. (2) Is it safe to be so near that poison even though you are outside? even thought the poison the exterminators use are reg'd with the EPA etc, nevertheless, it is still a poison. (3)I was on vacation in Miami in the summer a few years ago, and those mosquitoes are HUGE, you're gonna campout in the backyard? My family used nearly a whole bottle of insect repellant. |

Have you thought about trying to fix the problem yourself? Everyone I've seen that had a so-called professional attack their termite problem had serious side-effects from the poison that ends-up coating everything they own. Plus, the poison isn't permanent so the termites return. Thirty years ago, you could buy good stuff that would kill the termites and keep them away, but not anymore. In my house, I ripped-out all of the infested wood, raised my house a foot to get it higher off of the ground (house-jacks are fun!), removed all of the wood that's within a foot of the ground, put about a foot deep by 2 feet wide moat of sand of the proper grain size (the size that's too small for the termites to crawl through but too large for them to push around) around everything that touches the ground, and got rid of all sources of dampness near the house (including cutting down a tree to get much of one side of the house out of the shade, routing the AC drain farther from the house, cutting-down bushes, did some grading to slope the ground away from the house all of the way around). Other than seeing a lone termite every once in a while, I haven't had a problem in over 20 years. If the termites are attracted to your house, there's a reason. Temporarily killing them off, while it will help, won't keep them away forever. Make your house a less attractive target, and you will win the battle.z

This reminds me of the pissing out in the back yard thread of some time ago. You aren't gonna be real popular with that neighbor when you come knocking every few hours just to take a piss. Especially in the middle of the night. Might want to use some tarp to make yourself a bit of privacy. For the wife, get a pickle bucket and a toilet seat. make sure you have a water hose to rinse the bucket. Don't crap in it unless you have a garbage bag to line the bucket (emergency use). |

They come in from underground. Just the price of living in Florida, nobody is immune. Even if you jack your house off the ground. To kill them right you gotta tent for 2 days. Steyr, I hope you got two estimates, as in Texas if you don't have subterranean termites, the guy that tested for them probably missed something... In my house and my rent house, the kill was done without tenting. Now, our slabs are "floating" slabs here so that may be the issue..but he just drilled around the house and through lower floor plumbing areas and eliminated the ability for the termites to get back to water.(re: dirt lower than the brick facade and weap holes) You don't have to leave the house, or get "tented". Ask em! |

Wait SA....... You say you have Subterranians? They only do fumigations for Drywood Termites! Are they trying to rim 'ya by telling you, you need a fume for Subs?
If it's subs they are treated from the ground! Drywoods..... they can form colonys directly into the wood! Like Coz_45 said.... you better check, as I know fumes are $$$$.... If it's subs they treat under and around the slab depending on type of slab! |

Yep… The debris piles sound like drywoods to me. The debris is actually their poop! Fecal pellets that they kick out of their galleries!

We just tented our new (70 year old) house. Some of the base plates were so riddled that you could have crushed the 2x4 with your bare hand. Not that bad overall though.

Just be thankful you don't live in Calif, and have atermite problem. There was an explosion from a tenting operation because the exterminating company messed-up and did't turn-off the natural gas. The exterminating company lost the ensuing lawsuit, and now the exterminating companies has to call the Gas company to turn-off the natural gas and the liablitity insurance has tripled for exterminating companies. |

For $500 you should tent it. Get a motel 6 for the wife and camp out. She can relieve you long enough for a shower. Run the extension cord for a small tv & dvd player. Use a cooler for 2 days for your eats & drinks. Buy a new gun with the other $425 you'll save.

Yea... thats no joke! People will rob your house while tented! I worked for a pest control company right out of high school for a few years, and I worked in the 'Termite Department' as they called it! Anyways.... We did structual fumigations.... and dumb asses would open up the seems on the tent, never mind the big skull and cross bone 'Danger' signs all over the place, and crawl through a window or something!
Usually they never got far enough to take anything as the Chloropicrin, a tear gas agent that we had to release just for this reason, would burn their ass up! Just be thankful they don't still use Methyl Bromide as the fumigant gas, or you would be out of the house about seven days! |
