anyone have a suggestion of a quality, long reach punch that would be good for taking the bolt catch roll pin out of the lower?   I've broken about 3 of them and tired of buying junk

Brownell's makes one just for that one task.  Well worth it.

Can you leave it in? The are pretty cheap to buy a new one, spring and roll pin.  I tear crap up trying to remove those devil pins

Wow ur hard on punches. I have never busted one of my cheap ones. I guess spend more money. Maby stainless steel.

a little of that and likely not having a decent punch set to begin with..

I think I have the Brownells punch that is flat on one side. There is also one by KAK industry that looks okay, but no experience with it:

stainless roll pin punch
