Do they have some really intelligent people over there picking out their firearms? I’ve so far listed the HK G3, AR-15 type 9mm, Browning Hi Power, Beretta 92, and the MAC11. Do these people just really have excellent taste in guns, or what? I’m sure I’m missing some, but they seem to have all winners so far. Anybody know of any other weapons choices the RSA has made, past or present? I'm wondering if they rounded out their choices with a .223 AR variant.

I beleive it was called the R4, an AK/Valmet/Galil clone in .223.  In a military version only.  Of course, now the RSA is going the way of Assie and Canada with their civilian firearms ban.

I think they also use(d) the Isralie Galie (sp?)system, which is also excellent for the sandy, dusty countryside.

True about the bans, I'm not congratulating them for anything other than their military wepons choices...

UI've never seen an R4 or clone, anybody got a pic? Or is it just a slightly modified ak type(as the Galil and Valmet are)?

Looks just like a Galil.  Heard there are a few (very minor) differences.

The AIDS Virus is running rampant in South Africa. Some estimates state the infection rate as being as high as 53% of the population. One-third of the white population have abandoned and left the country. The corrupt Socialist government now running the country hasn't done Diddly-Squat for the peons who were all oh so sure the new Black Government would help them walk on water.

The South African Stock Market just recently moved out of Johannesburg because the downtown area was beginning to look like a third world shit hole. Every corner had beggars and country folk hawking goats, chickens and T-Shirts and smokes.

The homeless were living in abandoned office buildings and in the alleys around the skyscrapers. Garbage everywhere on the streets....And, you guessed it, the Leftist Media here will never show how far the deterioration has set in over there....

An email pal of mine over there is having a BR rifle done in 6mm BR.  He had to get rid of his 6mm/223 because it would have been hard for him to own two 6mm calibers.  But, had one rifle been a .243 Win, the beauracrats would not know any different, that would be no problem.  A firearm application for getting a rifle in SA takes around 5 months to process.  In the mean time they come to your home, inspect your safe(s), and check the contents against your licenses.  Rifles such as an AR or a Mini-14 are harder to own legaly there than Class III is here.  They are also trying to get a one handgun per life law passed.  Or, maybe it already has passed.
One day, not so long ago, they were all told, "Go ahead, register your firearms, it's for the common good and safety."  Or, something along those lines.

Mmmhhh... IN Italy registration (mandatory after law 110/75 against communism/fascist terrorism in the 70s)didn't bring to confiscation. With Netherland Switzerland and France, Italy is seeing a release of rules with firearms that allow people to own more firearms.

I guess that registration=confiscation is more a Anglo-Saxon equation... don't I?

I guess so, because it is in the Anglo/Saxon countries with registration (Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada) where you see the government collecting average peoples' guns. They have trouble convincing criminals to register their guns.  Netherlands seems to be the exception, but then they seem to be the exception in everything.  They seem to have pretty sensible politicians.

Registration of guns would be acceptable if I could trust the government not to ever take my guns.  But the government has shown over and over that it can't be trusted even a little.

No Paolo, that's not right.  We here in the USA know all about everything, especially what it's like to own guns in other countries.  It's very simple, actually; if you disagree with our conceptions, then you must be wrong.  Sorry about that.

The Vektor R4 is the South African standard rifle and is a slightly modified Israeli Galil; the modifications consisted of changing the butt and fore-end to synthetic materials rather than steel, in consideration of the bush temperatures common in Africa, and lengthening the butt since the average South African is rather larger than the average Israeli. The Vektor R4 is chambered for the 5.56 mm M193 cartridge and has a rate of fire of 700 rounds-per-minute from a curved 35 round box magazine.

Is is true that about 30% of the whites have left RSA?

PaoloAR15 I've heard the cops there (IT)commonly walk around with subguns slung on thier shoulder. True?  Just Rome? What?

Nice little slam about England, NZ, Canada, AU, etc.  God, I hope it's not genetic.

Hey, wait a minut. David M is right, plus isn't one of the major South American countries in the middle of a seizure.

Not sure what Cible's point is, other than sarcasm.  At least Imrog|io's ornryness and angst is aimed.

When I was in Italy, I noticed they had something like 5 police agencies I could distinguish.

The meter-maid type cops carry pistols of some kind (care to guess what kind?)

In front of the courthouses there are guards in full body armor and Beretta SMGs.  Italy has a bit of a problem with the mafia.

Then there's the Carabineri, which are sort of like a cross between the National Guard and the FBI.  They have military-like uniforms, carry assault rifles and so on, but I think they have law enforecement powers.

My friend was beaten up by her roomate's boyfriend, and she didn't know which agency to report the crime to.  When she finally did, they didn't do anything about it.

Browser....You just described Tucson, Arizona...beggars on every street corner...hawking newspapers,t-shirts,flowers...city council had to pass an ordinance banning them which takes effect in a couple of days....
