There is a specific category of custom handgun grips in my heart where the cheese-factor is the thing I judge them by the most! If you want to win the blue ribbon in that category, you need to up your cheese-game.

Honestly, I just like the look of smooth wood.
Cocobolo looks good. Bubinga looks good (aka african rosewood). Mesquite looks good. |
