Here are a few more:
La Femme Nikita... the original French movie. It's best watched in French with English subtitles. The scene with the Desert Eagle and titanium tipped .44's always gets me going. Robocop...watch the directors cut where Ed-209 drills that unfortunate VP for an extra 30 seconds. Ghost in the shell...Moody and introspective but very violent, lots of modern guns. Gunsmith Cats...This anime series is so gun crazy it's awesome. I thought it was a kids show at first until the killing started. The only way I can describe it is - Sailor Moon meets Schwartzenegger. Imagine two cutesie girls that own and operate a gunstore and drive around in a tricked out 68' Cobra 428 fighting crime. Lots of guns, grenades and automatic rifle fun. Who ever writes for this series really did their homework, they have the best guns and the fastest cars. And they always end up in their panties for some reason. ;) The Killer...A John Woo movie staring Chow Yun Fat. The body count in this movie is staggering. My only gripe is that some gun fighting scenes are grossly unrealistic. There are lots of "Hot Shots Part Deux" type mowing down of badguys. But it's still really cool. First Blood...lets not forget the original and best! I can't say enough about the movies already mentioned Predator, Heat, Aliens, Terminator, SPR, FMJ, The Professional, Face-off, The Matrix...etc |

It was probably meant more as a parody on gun owners, I hear the director or the guy that played the "gun nut" is extremely antigun, but Tremors and Tremors2 has some of the better gun loving humor and gun talk that I've seen in a movie.
The part in Tremors 2 where the nut talks about running out of ammo and he had to go "hand to hand" with the little beasties, is the funniest thing in the world to me for some reason. I always imagine "going head to head" with a herd of rabid squirrels and having to finish off the last dozen or so with my trusty KaBar and my hand to hand skills. |

I'm surprised that most of you can't think of any films older than the late '70s. Combat from the early '60s was a good pick from one person. GUN CRAZY was remade in the early '90s with plenty of sex, but did not come anywhere near the firearms enthusiasm of the original film noir classic. I think we should revise to include only BLACK & WHITE films from the years where owning a firearm was consider completely normal. Many of the films mentioned are really anti-gun films with some entertaining firearm use in them. What I'm looking for are the high-quality films (and color is ok too) that are overlooked by many, but maybe someone's come across and could share. Here's the Maltin reviews of the two films I mentioned:
GUN CRAZY: (1949) 86m. ***1/2 D:Joseph H. Lewis. Peggy Cummins, John Dall, Berry Kroeger . . . Knockout of a sleeper in the BONNIE & CLYDE tradition, stylishly (and sometimes startlingly) directed. Cummins is femme fatale who leads gun-crazy Dall into life of crime. Screenplay credited to MacKinlay Kantor and Millard Kaufman (who was actually fronting for then-blacklisted writer DaltonTrumbo), from Kantor's Saturday Evening Post story. Also knows as DEADLY IS THE FEMALE. Loosely remade in 1992. WINCHESTER '73 (1950) ***1/2 92m. D: Anthony Mann. James Stewart, Shelly Winters, Dan Duryea, Stephen McNally, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis . . . t.v. show that started a year or so after Combat- the gallent men. t.v. show the untouchables- lots of thompson action t.v. show Have gun/Will Travel The Pride and the Passion--Sophia (drool) Loren. Big cannon, remember that movie. And who was it that wore a sawed off shotgun on his leg? A t.v. show, mmmmmm, johnny yuma, the rebel or wanted-dead or alive, I cant remember. |

I like your choice of the Untouchables, as I was a child-actor and appeared in an episode (actually a 2-part) of the series entitled, "The Big Train," which starred Neville Brand (4th most decorated soldier in WWII) as Al Capone. They show the pair of episodes together these days as an ersatz TV movie. I got to hold one of those Thompson's (not in the show itself) and inspect it on the set. Steve McQueen was in Wanted: Dead or Alive and had a sawed-off lever-action, and Nick Adams was the star of Johnny Yuma with the sawed-off shotgun. Wire Paladin, San Francisco. |

For those who have mentioned 'The Professional', you must go for the uncut international version. I love seeing a young girl going on hits and carrying a .45 in her lttle metal lunch box.
Most anything that had John Milius http://us.imdb.com/Name?Milius,+John involved in it. This includes Red Dawn, The Wind and the Lion, The Rough Riders (made for TNT), Clear and Present Danger, the list goes on forever. Somebody already mentioned the Killer with Chow Yun Fat, there's also Hard Boiled which was also doen by Chow and Wu. For animated themese, there's several, including Gunsmith Cats that was already mentioned and there's the Golgo-13 animated movies that are _NOT_ meant for kids. But the best of all is Jake Speed. * Hard Target, once you get past the plot and Van Damme, it has some cool gun-play, lots of it in slo-mo. * SPR and Heat, of course * Sniper, kind of cool, enough for me to buy the DVD * Navy Seals * Shaft, especially the new one * Untouchables... "Do you carry a badge?" "Yes." "Then you carry a gun." Nothing to do with guns, but if you haven't seen Trinity & Beyond - Atomic Bomb Movie, do so immediately. Awesome video with a haunting original score by some Russian orchestra. Well worth the purchase. |
