It's amazing how a small project can become a major overhaul. I was contemplating what to do with this old 6920. The barrel was shot out, and no longer passing hyeadspace checks. I wasn't too impressed with the upper, so I decided to replace the entire upper assembly with a new Noveske stripped upper and Raptor CH from Rainier, CHF barrel from FN, and BCG from AIM, and CASV that was on clearance from DSG. I reused the gas tube.
The lower wasn't in as bad shape as the upper. 
I ended up replacing most of the lower parts with a new LPK from CMMG, and put in a new Geissele SD3G trigger, Battle Arms selector, Odin Mag Release, and TBB PDQ Ambi Bolt Catch, and replaced the stupid 4 position receiver extension with a Spikes 6 position, along with new spring and buffer. I reused the grip screw. 
I hated this stupid warning label that Colt felt was necessary to remind us lowly peasants that we shouldn't be using their ARs, so I replaced it with a Noveske lower. I went ahead an threw away any old part I decided I wasn't going to reuse. 
While ordering the parts, i realized it would be a couple weeks for everything to come in, so I went ahead an ordered a 11.5" barrel, and registered the lower as an SBR. I took my rebuilt Colt 6920 out to the range this weekend, and threw 200 flawless rounds down 100 and 200 yards respectably. I'm happy with the overall performance. Colt makes a fine rifle.
