Recently I did the floor in the master bedroom and in the process bought some tools I had been putting off. Well now that I have just about all I need and had such a good time I'm gonna expand and build shelving in all our closets. Wife wants some "pipe" book cases for her "reading" area and just a bunch of other shit I never did because I never had the tools.

So first I need to make an actual workbench and a woodworkers bench as well.

Show me what you got and built etc!

Give me ideas!

Background: 2 years wood shop in high school followed by 3 years laboring/cutting/framing custom homes.

Ok, well I'll just use this to update what I come up with

Still brainstorming what I am gonna do bench wise.

I built our coffe table and end table for living room.

Really just involved sanding and staining and building the frame.

That count?

I turned this:

into this:

I bought some pre-laminated shelving boards, contoured them so I wouldn't lose an eye on a corner (if I came in too hot for some Cheetos), and re-laminated the edge.

And one time I dropped a picture frame and the frame broke but not the glass. So , I went and bout some cheap pine wood, and made this:

The raised portions that the pistols mount on screw in from the back and I made several versions for different pistols. It's got some flaws, but it was one of my earlier projects and I used nothing but a table saw.

If you built it (modified etc) out of wood then yeah, it counts.

Check out the threads in the reloading section here. I made a couple based off of the torsion beam design that someone posted plans for, it was so solid for reloading that I built one in the garage. Inexpensive too.

Oh shit... I won't show my wife those or she'll asking for stuff like that. I already have been tasked with using pipes for towel hangers in our bathroom. Plus a bookshelf bolted to the wall out of it. Problem their is I really don't think I can use too many pieces of pre cut pipe. I'll have to cut and thread it...

What kind of pipe did you use? What I've been seeing is I'll need malleable iron plates, connections etc with black steel pipes with the paint sanded off?
Link Posted: 10/18/2015 11:34:09 AM EDT
[#11]
I used all black iron pipe from Home Depot/lowes. 1" for the main parts and 3/4" for some variation. The floor flanges are the most expense part locally $10 each but you can order them online for around $3 I've found. I used all pre cut pieces and kinda made it work. I'm going to replace out living room TV stand with a pipe/wood one that I plan to start building very soon.

I actually built the coffee table when my wife was out of town one week for work and when she saw it....

Then

Then finally

She wasn't crazy about it but it was already built and it was staying put. Now she's okay with it.

ETA:

I love building stuff but have limited time so it can take a long time for a project to get finished.  The TV stand will be a challenge.

My next project is a headboard and night stands for our guest room.

Great  how did that floor install come out.

With the closet you have to get everything out and then measure.   That's a job my wife wants me to do.   We are supposed to share a closet but she has the whole thing and my stuff goes up stairs in the extra room closet.

Edit I just checked that thread.   Floors look great.   Well done.

They were re-sawn

We're trying to get away from the Tupelo Gum heart wood because we have to replace ALL our blades after two tables, stuff is like steel.

Yeah, the wife wants it but like most things being built she doesn't get the work involved. Like the pipe towel hanger. No I may or may not be able to use pre cut pieces, why? Because our house was built like shit and you never know where a stud may or may not be. For heavy ass pipe hanging on a wall I won't trust dry wall screws... shit will pull the whole chunk out lol! So odds are for even that little section it will be more work than expected. The book case deal she wants... man, I am expecting lots of pipe cutting and threading...

The closet she is just saying to go with the same kind of white painted wood... it's fucking particle board painted white... She says "resale" value but if I am gonna do the closet I am gonna use good wood and make it a nice "finished" space. I really don't plan on moving personally but she some how thinks we might one day...

LOL, the contents of the pantry sparked interesting commentary when I originally posted these....

The "NO BEANS" Hormel is for Chili Dogs only.... REAL chili doesn't come in cans.... and has beans!!

If you ever need some quality thick wood in boards up to 3-4" thick check out Mason's mill in Houston.
They stock everything from Cipo mahogany, black walnut, Cherry, just about any kind you can think of.
It's like a treasure hunt every time I go there. Very hard to leave without getting a ton of wood that is just to beautiful to pass up.

This is just one aisle of the warehouse, there are several.

We designed them, they are cut on a waterjet from 11ga cold rolled steel, then press broken at a 90 down the center and once on the bottom to form the foot. We have designs for them in 16", 24", and 30" heights at the moment.

Fixed some cabinet doors for the gf. Original panels were broken and had been removed. Took a slab of African mahogany, had it planed to 5/8". Doors were 3/4" wider at the bottom, so had to be careful when laying it all out. Routed the edges with a hand router, sanded, stained, and urethaned.
