Finally found an affordable bayonet in pretty good condition for my Springfield Krag. But there's a few tiny pockets of rust. What's the best method to stop / eliminate the rust without damage to the old finish?
Thank you for any input!!!!!

It's better to burn out than it is to rust..

If you really want to get every speck of rust off, Kano Labs (makers of Kroil) sell a product called ExRust.  It WILL remove all rust almost instantly.  As others have said though, really, you should just oil it and leave it be.

As for Rust Never Sleeps, well:

Well, I hosed it down with this stuff, took brass brush to the pitted spots and wiped it down again before I took the pictures. If ya'll think that's good enough, then I good with it also.

Looks like you have already built up a passivation layer, nothing is loose.  slap some oil on it, and don't leave it in a leather shealth all the time.

ETA:  Errrr, wax it with paste wax.  Keep the air off it

Anything with phosphoric acid, i.e. Naval Jelly, will kill the rust without compromising the parent metal.  Then oil/wax whatever to preserve it.

Oil it up, and don't touch it with your acidic hands.

Yes, this is the answer. Ospho is also a phosphoric acid base that chemically changes the iron oxide to iron phosphate.  Then just keep it oiled.
