We steamed out for about 4 hours, to arrive 75 miles out, at sunrise. Lines went in about 5:45 am. At 5:51 am, we had a double knockdown, but lost one immediately. This one, however, made it for a short boatride.

This was the first billfish for everyone on board, so we were all pretty excited, and for those of you "in the know" my release was retarded for a marlin. I AM, after all, a tuna guy. I'll get it right next time.

Sorry about the vertical video, the Captains better at finding fish, than running video.

Thanks Bro. We trolled another 5/5 1/2 hours only to hook and lose a few mushies. We pounded the highfliers on the way home for only a few mahi. Just the same, mission accomplished. Now for a wahoo!

Thanks. Our first one. I was the guy doing the dirty work, (as usual) " Sure, just grab the bill, and pull him in".

You fucked up.

Shoulda caught that fish a few miles south and about a month ago. The winning white marlin in the Ocean City White Marlin Open was worth a cool $1.2 million. Yours wasn't quite that big, but "it coulda been a contenda!"

Nice fish OP

Surfy, the Stream has wandered close to sound for a few years now.
It used to be a freak catch to grab a Mahi or Yellow Fin.

Now it seems a regular deal to catch these semi tropical species or am I wrong?

Nice grab rookie!

My wife caught an Atlantic sailfish 1.5 inches short of the GoM record.....96 inches. I still have never caught one, of any size

I won't say you're wrong, but the Gulf Stream sends us "warm core eddies" every year. If you can reach them, you can catch all the pelagics you want. It's tough up here, but totally do-able. We're planning another canyon trip in three weeks.

Hell, in Fla, they motor out a few miles, and they're in the GS. I iz jelly!

I'd rather have caught a sail, than a marlin..... But I want a wahoo first, then a sword, THEN a sail.

Wahoo is my favorite fish of all. Great fight, great taste. When you catch one I have a couple of recipes for you.

Always is. Even if we don't catch, it's a great time on the water. SOMETIMES, though, we get to scratch off another fish from the bucket list.
