But not to him. At that close the muzzle blast may have gotten in and done nearly as much damage (or more) that the bullet. Lungs are rather delicate things. Even a blank can kill at contact distance. |

Even the muzzle blast doesn't help much: it just wrecks the orbits and sinuses. Even if they hit the brain, too low and too far forward with a mousegun sometimes just gives you a frontal lobotomy: you forget some stuff like 3rd grade math and you don't "get" a lot of jokes, but you live. Hell, I've even had an intraoral GSW miss the whole damn skull and hit only neck. No matter how simple the task, somebody will fuck it up. |

It's not the shot that puts you down, it' traumatic shock and or drop in blood pressure causing shock that does it.
Some people can go into shock and die from nearly nothing, even a really bad scare, some will stay in it until they bleed out all the way.

I lived for 45 minutes with both lungs collapsed, all ribs broken (front and back) and 5 ribs puncturing the lungs. I couldn't talk, but wrote letters to the ones I loved and thought about life a bit. I would have had zero problems shooting a firearm - accurately.

Someone shooting themselves is less likely to go into shock or drop right away since they are expecting the shot.
Shoot someone that's not expecting it and the body may just shut down out of the sheer panic and pain. Mindset has a lot to do with it... at least on the bleeding wounds. CNS hits will drop you no matter how hardened your resolve is. |

my wife asked me why i watch gory real world videos like this. i told her that it prepares me for the off chance that i have to deal with something horrific in real life. so i see someone committing a mass shooting or see a very bloody accident. i dont want my brain to lock up trying to process what im seeing. i'd rather have seen it on a video previous and processed it and then take whatever action needed to handle the situation.
