So my wife's Explorer Sport took a rock to the windshield and had a crack in it. Out came the repair guy.

I did not talk to him when he got here, my wife did. I did go out and look at the work when he was done. The thing that struck me was his accent.

I said-" I have to ask-South African?"

He said "Yes. Born in Rhodesia."

He said he lived hear the border with Mozambique with his family on a farm. When Rhodesia fell, they moved to South Africa to rebuild and have another farm.

Lost that one too, he said his Dad gave up and they moved to the US.

My son heard the conversation and brought out his Rhodesia flag he has. I thought the guy was going to tear up and cry.

Super nice guy. It was interesting, I have never met anyone from SA.

Well, a white one I guess.

He looked like every Rhodesian soldier I have seen in books. Tall, thin. Tanned. With the crew socks and hiking boots. Same short bush shorts.

I guess old habits die hard.

I work in the oil & gas fields of OH, Wv and PA and some of my best Oilfield buddies are from South Africa.
They bust there ass.
The realize nothing is given and no one owes them shit

I know a White South African who has been literally been floating around the Caribbean since his family lost their business (seized by the Government). Last time I saw him he commented on how the U.S. news media thinks that minorities in Government is a good thing for every country EXCEPT South Africa.

That's interesting. I met my first South-African this summer. He was working on a harvest crew traveling north to the Dakotas. His draper head (combine head) trailer broke at the pivot point and they stopped into the shop for help. Nice Kid. Talked a little weird but not as bad as some regular folk. He had a few buddies that worked for the same outfit and they were all around 25 yrs old. I asked him about how SA was and he said if you're white that it is not that great. "Outnumbered" was the term he used. Said he can legally stay in the US for (6 months?) and back to SA for whatever time period and then back here he comes.

The only person I actually know that is from Africa is white. He told me several fucked up stories about the kid snatching when he was a grade schooler.

Yes.

As a FFL, it was amusing when a client (another Rhodesian, a naturalized US citizen) filled out the 4473.

"White, African."

My cardiologist is South African. He loves anything mechanical. He knows I'm an old car/tractor guy so that's about all we talk about during my annual checkup. Very cool guy.

I have a friend from SA. I assumed he was from India when I first met him. Turns out there is a nice population of them in SA. Odd, back in the day they would bring slaves from India into Africa while we were taking slaves from Africa.

I didn't know all this before I met him.

My office guy is Indian from South Africa. His family also owned slaves there back in the day.
