Twin, rival demonstrations going on at the same time.

The anti-austerity ("no" vote in Sunday's referendum) group is in front of the parliament, in Syntagma Square.

The pro-austerity, pro-euro ("yes" vote in the referendum) group is in the nearby old Olympic Stadium.

Police are trying to keep the two groups apart, with the usual anarchists trying to disrupt things.

PM Tsipras is scheduled to address the rally in front of parliament.

I am thinking they fall into the 'Putin' world.

He kicks them a few bucks, he gets access to warm water ports, and slowly takes over the whole country.

Then Greece looking for NATO to rescue them.

Bingo. We need to keep the squeeze on Putin with sanctions so that we can limit the cash he has on hand to do something like this.

If the Russians are willing to spend the money they can turn Greece into a second Hungary.

The "yes" crowd appears to be more orderly and middle class than the "no" crowd. As is to be expected. But will they have the numbers at the polls?

BTW, "NAI" in Greek means "yes" and "OXI" means "no." Just so you can tell who is who.

ETA: The ERT coverage (state televison) will be of the "yes" rally first, and then the "no" rally. (They won't cut back and forth between the two.) ERT is required to be fair to both sides, but it's telling that Tsipras and the "no" group will have the last word.

The truth is that fo dog was one of many. There are scores of loose dogs in downtown Athens at any given time, and they seem to be attracted to scenes of activity and excitement. Especially if someone gives them snacks. Nevertheless, fo dog was unique in his feistiness.

Putin hasn't advanced any money to Greece so far. Nor does he have the spare money to do so.

He's playing a very clever game, on the cheap, to keep the Greeks' hopes up.

Russia really doesn't need naval bases in Greece. What Russia simply wants is to drive a wedge between Greece and the EU and NATO. And it hardly has to do anything. The EU is doing its work for it.

Bingo version 2.0 ... nailed it. Although, I don't blame Putin. He's looking after his own interests. Maybe we should do the same. And, so should every European country. Socialism never works long term, especially when its shared between different cultures.

If you actually knew any Greeks, I doubt you would call them "lazy." At most you would say that their energies were misdirected.

BTW, the people you can see on your screen right now are the anti-socialist segment of Greek society.
