I am not very sophisticated when it comes to social networking.  I have had a facebook acct for years - I do not use my real name or date of birth, rather a nickname.

I log in about once a week, and today I found I cannot log in and Facebook wants me to submit a photo ID to unlock my account????

I have never heard of such a thing, I guess it's goodbye facebook.

Is this new?  am I retarded?

DO NOT give them your personal ID.
EVER.

Never heard of it.   Did you change the name on the account recently?   Try doing the forgot password reset feature?

Easy solution. Don't.

Check the URL just in case you're getting phished.

Edit: Looks like genuine Facebook does use photo ID verification if you don't have a mobile number associated with your account.

ID required for Facebook but not to vote in this country.  Makes sense.

Someone reported your account as fake.

Show ID, or say bye to Facebook.

Make sure the URL is actually Facebook.

No. Possibly.

It is very easy to make an anonymous FB account.  Just get a free web based email address and go from there.

They locked my account claiming I'm not using my real name (which I'm not) and made me change it.

I did, to something ridiculous. I'm guessing I will get asked for my ID next.

Fuck Facebook!

I suppose face book is also trying to weed out the what 70% accounts that are fake.

I mean only Obama  and Hillary, Bush and their ilk can get those.

If someone tags your account as not being your real name, they will lock it down until you confirm.

my new facebook name will be Mohammed Smith.

I had that happen to me a few years ago to my Don Keypunch account. I just told em to eat my dick and opened another account with a different email. I still don't use my real name.

Same happened to one of my friends, he used his company name instead of his real name.
They made him start a new account.

Too many people will gladly give it to them. Its fucking retarded.

If they really want to ensure only real people are on it , just charge for FB. Plenty of fucktards would pay 20 a month for it.

In the fine print you agree to when you make an FB account you agree to only use only your real information.  If they suspect that you are using a fake name they will lock down your account until you prove your identity.  They can't make money off fake information.

I would not use one of those freely available apps to generate a fake ID for that name you used.  The Facebook folks wouldn't like that.

You have to show a photo ID if they think your user name is fake.
If your user name is anywhere near reasonable, they won't notice.

I didn't know someone's account could be flagged by other users.  That sounds ripe for abuse.

Or for getting rid of stupid names like "Tony StraightBallin Smith" and "Katrina YOLOSWAG BeautifulDisaster Johnson".
