I'm going to be traveling across NY, from Hudson valley region to the Syracuse area. 4ish hours each way.

For a normal trip id have my 9mm compact under the steering wheel and my standard overnight /change of clothes snack bars water etc.

However with the "higher" threat alert. I'm revisiting my loadout.

normal route of travel is  84 - > 17 -> 81

I was considering thruway on the way up instead. 25 min longer but more frequent stop areas/refuel every  1.5 hours to keep tank nearly topped off.
Thruway home but have the ability to offroad through woods to get to side roads if it becomes stopped for any length of time/ terror threat

I was thinking 9mm under the steering wheel, with 2 reloads in the glove box.   1911 in the center console with 4 mags.

5 gallons of fuel extra (not sure I want to deal with the odors inside the jeep)

Full backpacking gear in the back.
Backpack
Sleep system
Kitchen /w 3 days food/water
Toiletries / toothbrush/soap etc
hiking boots/socks
trekking poles
maps/compass with back roads routes marked.

Amateur radio HF rig + antenna + batteries

Jeep is equipped with a winch and high lift with tow straps/ropes and a full size spare.

What say ye?  Should I overkill my Saturday/Sunday trip incase terror strikes?

Your "additional" list looks like it should be your normal load out for a road trip.  Of course I'm a retired logistician and I always pack for all contingencies when possible.  Don't think you are being paranoid, just being practical.

That's what AR pistols are for nice compact weapon that can be brought to bear with some firepower in your hands. Pistols are for fighting to get to your rifle.

Doc

*never mind. Just saw you are from NY. Might want to bring a slingshot!
